Niori

Niori lighting is the lighting we sell under our own name, and this page holds the whole Niori range. Most of it is lighting, largely modern in style, from pendant lights and chandeliers to wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps, and we also stock a few coffee tables and wall mirrors under our name. Below, we explain how to choose by room, size, finish and bulb.

What is in the Niori range?

Niori is our own name, and most of the range that carries it is lighting for the ceiling, the wall, the table and the floor. Modern pieces make up most of our lighting, with industrial, traditional and art deco designs alongside them and some Scandinavian, mid-century modern and vintage pieces too. Away from lighting, our name also appears on a few coffee tables and wall mirrors.

Most of our lighting gives ambient light, the general light a room runs on. Many pieces are accent lights for picking out a wall, a picture or a corner, and a few are task lights for reading or close work. Layering ambient, accent and task light is what makes a room comfortable at any hour.

Which Niori light suits each room?

Most of our lighting suits a living room or a dining room, and many pieces suit a bedroom, a kitchen or a hallway. In a living room, start with a pendant or chandelier for overall light, then add wall lights and a table or floor lamp so you can switch the main light off in the evening. For dining, a large pendant, a cluster of shades or a linear design keeps the light over the table.

In a kitchen, a linear design runs the length of an island or worktop, or a row of single pendants can do the same job. In a bedroom, matching table lamps or wall lights either side of the bed give you light to read by. In a hallway, a ceiling light with wall lights along the stairs keeps the way lit after dark. Beyond the home, many pieces also suit commercial spaces.

What size of Niori light do you need?

We stock Niori lighting in small, medium, large and extra-large sizes, so measure before you choose. For a ceiling light in the middle of a room, a handy guide is to add the room's length and width in metres and multiply by about eight: the answer is a sensible diameter in centimetres. Over a dining table, choose a pendant or chandelier about half to two thirds the table's width, and hang it so its base sits a little under a metre above the tabletop.

Ceiling height matters as much as floor space. Under a low ceiling, a flush or semi-flush light keeps headroom clear; under a tall one, a longer drop or a multi-light chandelier fills the space, and many of our pieces carry ten or more lights. Most of our lighting has a single light, which suits a bedside, a side table or a smaller room.

Which Niori finish and material should you choose?

Many of our lights have a white finish, and many have brass, black or gold finishes, with silver, brown, copper and beige too. Most of the range sits in neutral colours, while many pieces are monochrome, earthy or bold, and a few bring in jewel tones. If you want a room to feel planned, repeat one finish across the ceiling light, the wall lights and the lamps, or pick up the finish of door handles, taps or switch plates.

Materials shape the light as well as the look. Most of our lighting uses metal, and many pieces use alabaster, a soft stone that diffuses light into an even glow. Many also use glass, brass or copper, and marble, travertine and stainless steel each appear on many pieces, so you can echo a stone worktop, a marble fireplace or steel kitchen fittings.

Which bulb does a Niori light take?

Many of our lights use integrated LEDs, built into the fitting, so there is no separate bulb to fit. Many others take a bulb, and the common fittings in the range are E27, the large screw cap, E14, the small screw cap, and G9, a small capsule with looped pins; a few pieces take a G4 capsule or a GU10 spotlight bulb. Check the fitting and the maximum wattage in a product's spec, and choose a bulb that matches both.

For a living room or bedroom, warm white light feels restful, and many of our lights give a warm white light. A cooler white suits a kitchen worktop or a desk, where you want to see detail clearly. Switch off at the mains and let the light cool before you clean it or change a bulb.

Fitting Niori lighting: what to check first

A pendant, chandelier, wall light or ceiling light that is wired into the mains should be fitted by a qualified electrician. In England and Wales, electrical work in a home falls under Part P of the Building Regulations, and a registered electrician can certify the work for you. A table or floor lamp that plugs in needs no electrician.

Before you buy, check the weight of a large chandelier and ask your electrician whether the ceiling needs extra support, then measure the drop you need. We stock some ceiling roses to finish a ceiling point neatly. A bathroom needs a light rated for its zone, IP44 or above near water, so check the IP rating in the spec before choosing a light for one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Niori lighting?

It is our own range of lighting, sold under the Niori name: pendant lights, chandeliers, wall lights, table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling lights, most of them modern in style. Industrial, traditional and art deco designs are part of it too.

Does the Niori range include interiors as well as lighting?

Yes. Most of the range is lighting, but our name is also on a few coffee tables and wall mirrors, and you will find them on this page alongside the lights.

Do Niori lights come with bulbs?

Many of our lights have integrated LEDs, so there is no separate bulb to buy for those. For a light that takes a bulb, check the product page for what is supplied, and choose a bulb to match its fitting and maximum wattage.

Can I dim Niori lighting?

A few pieces are marked dimmable in their spec. If a light takes a bulb, you will need a dimmable bulb and a dimmer switch made for LED loads, and your electrician can check they work together; with integrated LEDs, only fit a dimmer where the spec says the light is dimmable.

Do I need an electrician to fit Niori lighting?

Yes, for anything wired into the mains, such as a pendant, chandelier, wall light or ceiling light: use a qualified electrician, and in England and Wales make sure the work meets Part P of the Building Regulations. If a table or floor lamp simply plugs in, you can set it up yourself.

How do I check a Niori light will fit my room?

Compare the light's dimensions with your ceiling height and the space below it, leaving clear headroom wherever people walk. For a low ceiling, look at our flush and semi-flush designs; over a table, a longer drop is fine because nobody walks beneath it.

How should I clean a Niori light?

Switch off and let the light cool, then dust it with a soft, dry cloth; glass can take a lightly damp cloth, dried straight away. Alabaster and marble are porous, so keep water and spray cleaners off them, and avoid abrasive cleaners on any finish.
