The Funk Stout is an oversized 52cm metal pendant with a sculpted onion-dome silhouette, finished in matt black with a single E27 lamp holder concealed inside the shade. The shade tapers from a wide, rounded body to a pointed apex at the canopy, suspended from a 150cm black fabric-covered cable. At 52cm in diameter and 40cm tall, the shade reads as a piece of sculpture in its own right when unlit.

The scale suits kitchen islands of 1.8m or longer, larger dining tables seating six or more, and double-height hallways or stairwells where the proportions can be appreciated from below and from a landing. Hung in a single drop the pendant works as the primary visual element above a worktop or table; in pairs or threes it forms a strong rhythmic line. The 150cm cable can be shortened on installation to set the shade 700-900mm above a worktop or dining surface.

The shade is spun from metal with a low-sheen matt black exterior that absorbs rather than reflects ambient light, accentuating the curved profile. The interior is finished in a warmer tone that softens the downward light spill from the bulb, so the visible glow at the open base of the shade is less stark than a plain black-lined pendant. The fitting accepts any standard E27 bulb (sold separately), giving freedom to pair it with a vintage filament lamp for a warm exposed-bulb look or a frosted LED for cleaner task light.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. A vintage-style filament lamp suits the open base of the shade visually, while a frosted LED in 2700K-3000K gives warmer, glare-free light for dining or worktop use.

How much space does it need?

At 52cm in diameter and 40cm tall, the Funk Stout is best suited to kitchen islands of 1.8m or longer, dining tables for six or more, and rooms with ceilings of 2.4m and above. Hung lower over a 1.5m island it can dominate the space, so consider a smaller pendant for tighter layouts.

Can the cable be shortened?

Yes. The 150cm fabric-covered cable can be shortened on installation by a qualified electrician to set the pendant at the desired height. A typical drop sits 700-900mm above a worktop or dining table, measured from the bottom edge of the shade.

Is the pendant suitable for over a kitchen island?

The Funk Stout works well over a kitchen island and is a common application for this scale of shade. It is not rated for damp or zoned bathroom use. For a wider island, two or three units hung in a line at 700-900mm centres give balanced coverage along the worktop.
