Hanging chairs for the garden and the house
We hand-pick hanging chairs that give you a place to sit apart from the rest of the seating, rocking a little as you settle in. Our range covers single seats sized for one and wider designs that take two, all woven over frames made to live outdoors. Each one lists its height and the space it needs, so you can work out whether it suits a patio corner, a covered terrace or a conservatory before you order.
Hanging egg chairs
The egg shape is the one most people picture: a rounded basket that wraps around you, open at the front, hung from a curved stand so it needs no beam or ceiling fixing. We hold these in single and two-seater widths. The deeper shell gives more shelter from wind and low sun, which makes it the shape to choose if the chair will sit somewhere exposed.
Swing chairs and where they sit
A swing chair and a hanging chair are the same idea worked differently. A swing seat is a bench on a frame, made to be shared and to sit level. A hanging chair is a single suspended seat that turns and rocks. If you want somewhere for two people to sit side by side, a swing seat is the better fit; if you want a seat to yourself, a hanging chair is the one.
Built for outdoors
Outdoor seating has to cope with more than indoor furniture, so the weaves here are PE rattan and wicker over powder-coated steel or aluminium frames, chosen to handle sun, damp and changing seasons without splitting or fading. Cushions are supplied with the chairs that use them. Like any outdoor furniture, a hanging chair keeps its finish longer if it is covered or brought under shelter through winter.
Setting one up
Every hanging chair in our range comes with a stand, so there is no drilling and nothing to fix to a beam. You need enough clear floor for the stand's footprint and enough headroom for the hanging point, both of which are listed on the product page. Leave room around the seat for it to swing without knocking a wall or a table.
Choosing between them
Start with who will use it. A single seat suits a reading corner or a balcony; a two-seater needs more floor but gives a spot to share. Then look at where it will stand, because an exposed position suits a deeper shell and a sheltered one leaves the choice open. Our range is small and hand-picked, so the differences between designs are worth reading rather than skimming.
