Modern Ceiling Lights

Modern ceiling lights bring clean shapes and current materials to the main light in a room. Our range covers flush and semi-flush designs in alabaster, glass and metal, with integrated LED engines, warm white output and dimmable options. From small fittings around 30cm wide to large designs over 50cm, there is a shape and finish here for most rooms.

Alabaster Ceiling Lights with Integrated LED

Alabaster sits at the heart of our modern ceiling light range. The stone has a pale, slightly translucent surface that glows when an LED engine sits behind it, giving a warm, even spread of light rather than a hard point source. Most of our alabaster designs pair the shade with brushed brass or matt black metalwork, and many use a soft white body so the fitting sits quietly against a pale ceiling.

The shapes are simple and geometric. Round and square flush fittings keep the stone close to the ceiling, while semi-flush designs add wide domes, cylinders, cubes, globes and mini drops. There are also layered multi-light pieces that stack several alabaster shades on a single fitting for larger rooms. Sizes run from extra small fittings suited to landings and box rooms up to extra large designs made for bigger living spaces, so the same look can be carried through a whole house at different scales.

Glass, Crystal and Decorative Diffusers

Glass gives a modern ceiling light a different character. Opal glass throws a clean, even wash of light and appears across multi-light designs, while ribbed glass spheres add texture and a little sparkle, particularly when set against a gold frame. Clear and amber gold diffusers let more brightness through and suit rooms where the ceiling light does most of the work.

Crystal features in the range too, used in current, pared-back forms rather than ornate ones. At the playful end, there are balloon and moon globe designs in white that work well in children's bedrooms and bring a bit of personality to a flush fitting.

Metal Frames and Finishes

Metal is the most common material across the range, either as the whole fitting or as the frame that carries glass or alabaster. White and silver finishes recede into the ceiling, brushed brass and gold add warmth, and matt black, copper, polished chrome, nickel and dark silver give sharper, more graphic looks. Most designs sit within a neutral colour family, so they settle alongside existing décor rather than fighting it.

Metal also allows forms that other materials cannot manage: slim tube flush lights, mesh flush designs, ribbon shapes that fold light around themselves, and chain veil semi-flush designs where fine strands hang in layers below the ceiling plate. If you want a fitting that reads as modern from across the room, these metal designs are the place to start.

LED Technology: Dimming, Colour Temperature and Control

Many of our modern ceiling lights use an integrated LED engine rather than a separate bulb. Building the LED into the fitting keeps the profile slim and lets the light source follow the shape of the design, which is how alabaster shades and tube fittings stay so low. If you prefer replaceable lamps, a good number of designs take G9 capsule bulbs instead, so you can swap a lamp yourself without replacing the fitting.

Warm white is the most common colour temperature in the range and suits living rooms, bedrooms and hallways. For more flexibility, look for CCT switchable designs, which let you move between settings such as 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 6500K cool daylight on the same fitting. Plenty of models are dimmable, and some include a remote control that handles brightness and colour temperature from the sofa.

The range also stretches to practical formats: surface-mounted LED panels in square and rectangular sizes for utility rooms and home offices, and ceiling fan lights for rooms that run warm in summer, with retractable blades on some designs and remote control with adjustable colour temperature on others.

Choosing a Modern Ceiling Light Room by Room

Almost everything here is IP20 rated, which is right for dry indoor rooms; bathrooms and other wet areas need a higher rating, so look to fittings made for those spaces instead. Within the dry rooms of the house, the choice mostly comes down to size, finish and how much control you want over the light.

  • Living rooms: large round or layered designs over 50cm wide hold their own in bigger spaces and give broad ambient light for the whole room.
  • Bedrooms: warm white alabaster or opal glass fittings feel calm, and dimmable designs let the light drop as the evening goes on.
  • Hallways and landings: small fittings between 30cm and 50cm wide keep sight lines clear and carry the same finish through connecting spaces.
  • Dining rooms: a dimmable fitting above the table lets one light handle both family meals and slower evenings.
  • Studies: a switchable colour temperature earns its keep here, with cooler settings for daytime work and warmer ones after hours.

Flush designs sit tight to the plaster, while semi-flush pieces drop a little lower and add more shape; if your ceilings are genuinely low, our semi-flush range covers that ground in more depth. For the wider picture across every style of fitting, our main ceiling lights range is the place to compare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do modern ceiling lights have replaceable bulbs?

It depends on the design. Many of our modern ceiling lights use an integrated LED engine, which is built into the fitting, keeps the profile slim and means there is no bulb to change. Others take G9 capsule bulbs, which you can replace yourself in seconds. Each product page lists which type the fitting uses, so check there if being able to swap lamps matters to you.

What is alabaster and why is it used in modern ceiling lights?

Alabaster is a pale stone with a slightly translucent, milky surface. When an LED sits behind it, the stone glows rather than shines, spreading warm, even light across the room with very little glare. That makes it well suited to flush and semi-flush ceiling lights, which sit close to eye level on stairs and landings. Our alabaster designs come in round, square, dome, globe, cube and cylinder shapes, usually with brushed brass or matt black metalwork.

Can I change the brightness or colour temperature of these lights?

Many designs in the range are dimmable, and some are CCT switchable, meaning you can move between colour temperature settings such as 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 6500K cool daylight on one fitting. A few models include a remote control that handles both dimming and colour switching. If you plan to use a wall dimmer, check the product page first, as integrated LED fittings need a compatible dimmer to work properly.

What size of modern ceiling light should I choose?

As a rough guide, smaller fittings between 30cm and 50cm wide suit hallways, landings, studies and smaller bedrooms, while larger designs over 50cm wide are better matched to living rooms and dining rooms. Think about ceiling height as well: flush designs sit tight to the ceiling, while semi-flush pieces drop a little lower and add more shape. If in doubt, go slightly larger, as an undersized ceiling light tends to look lost in a room.

How much is UK delivery, and what if the light does not suit my room?

UK delivery costs £14.99, and orders of £99 and over qualify for free UK delivery. If a light is not right once you see it in place, you can return it within 14 days of delivery; return postage is paid by you and refunds are made in line with our returns policy. That window gives you time to check the light in daylight and after dark before an electrician fixes it permanently.
