Our Niori alabaster ceiling light range

Our alabaster ceiling lights are own-brand pieces designed and produced under the Niori name, with each shade cut from natural alabaster stone rather than glass or moulded synthetic. The range covers flush mounts, semi-flush fittings and round low-profile ceiling lights, with metalwork in brushed brass, matt black and soft white. Every fixture uses an integrated LED at warm white colour temperature, rated IP20 for indoor dry-zone use. Sizes run from compact 30-50cm shades suited to hallways and bedrooms, through to larger 50cm+ pieces for dining rooms and open living spaces. The Marea and Aleron designs sit at the centre of the range, both in modern and minimalist registers that work in contemporary and transitional interiors.

What is alabaster

Alabaster is a soft, slightly translucent natural stone. Modern lighting work uses gypsum alabaster, hand-cut from quarried blocks and polished to let light pass through the stone's internal mineral structure. Where frosted glass diffuses light evenly and ceramic blocks it entirely, alabaster transmits light through layers of natural veining, so the glow carries the stone's own pattern and tonal shifts. Each ceiling light in our range therefore looks slightly different from the next, even within the same model. This is the property of the stone, not a fault. Real alabaster is a natural material; the trade-off for that character is a small amount of variation between pieces.

Choosing the right ceiling light for your room

For bedrooms, a single Marea semi-flush mount centred above the bed gives soft ambient light without the glare of a downlight. The warm white LED reads closer to candlelight than to cool office lighting, which suits the room.

For hallways and landings, the round flush mount fittings sit close to the ceiling and clear standard 2.4m heights without crowding. In longer hallways, two smaller fixtures spaced evenly read better than one larger one.

For dining rooms and open-plan living, larger 50cm+ alabaster light fixtures provide ambient layer light to sit alongside table pendants or floor lamps. For kitchens, alabaster flush mount ceiling lights work well as a calmer alternative to spotlights, kept clear of direct cooking splash zones.

Care and maintenance

Dust the alabaster shade gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid feather dusters, which can leave faint scratches over time. For light marks or fingerprints, use a soft cloth dampened with plain water. Avoid soap, glass sprays, alcohol-based cleaners and abrasive cloths; these can erode the stone's natural finish. For deeper marks, a pH-neutral stone cleaner applied with a soft cloth removes residue without affecting the surface. Rinse with a damp cloth and dry fully. Because every fixture in our ceiling light range uses an integrated LED, there are no bulbs to replace; the driver and LED module are designed for long service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an alabaster ceiling light made from?

Our alabaster ceiling lights are made from natural gypsum alabaster, a soft and slightly translucent stone hand-cut from quarried blocks and polished to let light pass through. The stone is real, not glass or moulded synthetic, so the surface shows the natural veining and tonal variation of the original block. The metalwork around the stone is finished in brushed brass, matt black or soft white, and the light source is an integrated LED at warm white colour temperature.

What is the difference between a flush mount and a semi-flush ceiling light?

A flush mount sits tight against the ceiling with no visible drop between the canopy and the shade, which suits low ceilings, hallways and bathrooms outside wet zones. A semi-flush mount has a short stem between the ceiling canopy and the shade, giving a small amount of visual depth without the full hanging drop of a pendant. Our Aleron range covers the flush format; the Marea range covers semi-flush. Both use the same natural alabaster shades and integrated LED.

How do you clean an alabaster ceiling light?

Dust the shade gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For light marks or fingerprints, use a soft cloth dampened with plain water. Avoid soap, glass sprays, alcohol-based cleaners and abrasive cloths, because they can erode the stone's natural finish over time. For deeper marks, use a small amount of pH-neutral stone cleaner on a soft cloth, then rinse with a damp cloth and dry fully. Care instructions are included with every piece.

Are alabaster ceiling lights suitable for bathrooms?

Our alabaster ceiling lights are rated IP20, which means they are suitable for indoor dry zones only. They can be installed in bathrooms in zones away from direct water or steam contact, for example above a vanity area or seating zone at a safe distance from showers and baths. We do not recommend fitting them directly above showers, baths or splash zones, because persistent moisture can darken the stone over time. Check the relevant bathroom zone rating for your installation before fitting.

Do alabaster ceiling lights use LED bulbs?

Every ceiling light in our range uses an integrated LED rather than a replaceable bulb. The LED module and driver are built into the fixture and designed for long service life at warm white colour temperature, which reads close to soft candlelight and pairs well with the warm tones of the alabaster stone. Because the LED is integrated, there are no bulbs to change; if a driver ever needs servicing, contact us directly.
