A working hearth needs the right tools close at hand, and our fireside range covers the everyday jobs from lighting to tidying up the ash. A good companion set keeps your poker, brush, tongs and shovel together on a single stand, so nothing goes missing when the fire is roaring. Pair it with a sturdy log basket or hod and you have a simple way to carry fuel from the store to the grate without trailing bark across the floor.

Choosing pieces for your hearth

Our log baskets, buckets and hods are made in metal, chosen because it copes well with logs, coal and the odd knock. A fire screen guards against sparks when the flames settle, which matters if you have children or pets sharing the room. Think about the scale of your fireplace first: a large inglenook suits a deep basket and a taller companion set, while a compact stove works better with a slim hod and a low guard. Muted blacks and warm metal tones sit happily against brick, stone and painted surrounds.

Look after these pieces and they will serve you for many winters. Wipe metal down with a dry cloth to keep rust at bay, and empty wicker baskets of loose debris now and then. A little oil on iron handles keeps them turning smoothly. With a small amount of care, your fireside accessories stay ready for the next fire.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are your fireside accessories made from?
The range is made mostly in metal, with a few wooden pieces. Companion sets, fire screens, log baskets and hods tend to be metal for strength near the heat.

Are these pieces durable enough for daily use?
Yes. Everything is built for a working hearth, with solid handles, welded joints and finishes that stand up to logs, coal and regular handling. With basic care they will last through many seasons of use.

How do I choose the right size for my hearth?
Measure your fireplace opening and the space beside it first. Large inglenooks suit deep baskets and taller companion sets, while compact stoves pair better with a slim hod and a lower fire screen that clears the surround.

How should I style these accessories by the fire?
Keep the companion set on one side of the grate and the log basket or hod on the other for balance. Muted black and warm metal tones work well against brick and stone, so the pieces sit quietly rather than competing with the fire.

How do I clean and care for them?
Wipe metal parts with a dry cloth to prevent rust, and add a little oil to iron handles to keep them moving.

Can a fire screen be used with any type of fire?
Our fire screens suit open fires and many stoves, guarding the room from stray sparks and embers. Always allow enough clearance from the flames and check the size against your hearth before placing it.
