Description

A fireside bucket in iron, 34cm across and 29.5cm to the rim, under an antique brass finish. The body is near cylindrical, tapering only slightly to the base, with a single raised band running round the upper third and both the rim and the foot rolled over. A round bar handle swings from two flat lugs riveted at opposite sides just under the rim, so it stands upright to be carried and drops against the side when it is set down.

It is wider than it is tall, so it sits low and broad on a hearth rather than standing up beside it, and 34cm across takes an armful of kindling or a few small logs. It stands on a hearth beside an open fire and holds cones. Away from the fire the same shape holds rolled newspapers or a stack of firelighters.

The bucket is iron, soldered together by hand rather than pressed, and then given a rustic antique brass finish. The finish comes out uneven, so the tone shifts between a bright gold along the raised band and the rim and something cloudier and darker across the body, with a faint brushed grain running down the sides.
