What sounders and strobes do

Sounders and strobes warn people to leave once a fire has been detected. A sounder alerts by sound, a strobe by a flashing light, and combined units do both together so the warning is heard and seen. They are the output devices a fire panel drives when a detector or call point activates, and they are chosen to suit the spaces people occupy.

The options in this range

This range includes combined sounder strobe units, standalone sounders, low-profile and domed strobes, and a traditional internal fire bell for places where a bell is preferred. Low-profile and domed shapes give a choice of how the device sits against the surface it mounts to. Models are made to suit addressable, two-wire and conventional systems, so you can match the device to the panel already in place rather than changing the system. Weatherproof IP-rated options are available for outdoor and exposed positions, with a choice of red or white finishes to stand out or blend in with the surroundings.

Who each option suits

Combined sounder strobes suit areas where a warning needs to be both audible and visible, for example where noise or hearing may make sound alone less reliable. Standalone sounders cover spaces where sound is enough on its own, while a fire bell suits settings where that traditional alert is wanted. Outdoor and exposed mounting points call for the weatherproof IP-rated versions, which are built to cope with the conditions those positions meet.

How to choose

Start with the system you already have and pick devices made to match it. Decide whether each area needs sound, light or both, then choose combined units where a visible warning matters. Use the weatherproof options outdoors or in damp positions, and select red or white to suit the surroundings. Free delivery worldwide on all orders over £99.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a sounder and a strobe?
A sounder warns people by sound, while a strobe warns them with a flashing light. Combined sounder strobe units do both at once, so the alert is both heard and seen in the same device.

When should I use a combined sounder strobe?
A combined sounder strobe suits areas where a warning needs to be both audible and visible, for example where background noise is high or where a flashing light helps the alert reach everyone present.

Can these be used outdoors?
Yes. Weatherproof IP-rated options are made for outdoor and exposed positions. For internal areas the standard models are suitable, so match the device to where it will be fitted.

Will these work with my fire panel?
The range includes devices made to suit addressable, two-wire and conventional systems. Choose the version that matches the panel you already have so the device works with it.

Do you offer a fire bell as well?
Yes. A traditional internal fire bell is available for settings where a bell is the preferred form of alert, alongside the sounders and strobes.
