What an LED mirror brings to a room

Every mirror here has its lighting built in, so the light is part of the mirror rather than a separate fitting beside it. Light from the mirror itself, not just from the ceiling, means fewer shadows across your face, and the glow can also lift a dim corner after dark. Almost all are modern in style, so they sit comfortably in a contemporary home.

Most of our LED mirrors suit a hallway or living room, and many suit a bedroom. In a hallway, a lit mirror gives you a last look before you head out and brightens a space that often lacks daylight. Above a sideboard it bounces light around a living room, and over a dressing table it adds light where you get ready.

LED mirror shapes, frames and finishes

We stock round, square and rectangular LED mirrors. A few are oval. Round and oval shapes soften a room of straight lines, while square and rectangular mirrors line up neatly with a basin or sideboard. Many are frameless, which keeps the look light, and many have a metal frame for a crisper edge.

A few set the glass in alabaster, a soft natural stone that pairs well with wood, linen and warm colours. Finishes include clear glass, bronze-tinted glass and white. A few come in brushed brass, for a warmer metallic look. Choose clear glass when you need to see colours as they are, for make-up or picking an outfit, and bronze when the mirror is there as much for mood as for a quick check.

Warm or cool white from an LED mirror

Light colour matters on a mirror, because it is the light you judge your face by. Some of the mirrors here give a cool white light. At 4000K, cool white is crisp and clear, which makes it the better choice for shaving, make-up and matching colours. A few give a warm white light, which is softer and more relaxed and suits a bedroom, hallway or living room where the mirror sets the mood.

Check the product page if you want to turn the light down at night, as some are not dimmable, and never wire a non-dimmable mirror to a dimmer switch. If you want a softer glow later in the evening, add a dimmable lamp elsewhere in the room.

Choosing an LED mirror for the bathroom

We stock many LED mirrors for the bathroom. For a damp room, check that the product page says the mirror is suitable before you buy. Some carry an IP rating against splashing water, which is the key thing to look for. A qualified electrician can confirm the rating suits the spot you have in mind, as the rules depend on how close the mirror sits to the bath or shower.

Some have a demister, which warms the glass to help keep it clear of steam after a hot shower. A few have a shaver socket, so you can use or charge a shaver at the basin. A few have a motion sensor that switches the light on when it senses movement, which is handy with wet hands.

Sizing and hanging an LED mirror

Sizes vary widely, from compact bathroom mirrors to large wall mirrors, so measure your wall and check the dimensions on the product page before you order. Over a basin, we'd choose a mirror a little narrower than the basin or vanity unit below it, and in a hallway, hang it at a height that suits the whole household.

Check the weight too, as a large mirror can be heavy, and fix it into solid masonry or studwork with fixings rated for the load. See whether fixings come in the box, whether any assembly is needed and, for a rectangular mirror, whether it can hang in portrait, landscape or both.

Powering and wiring an LED mirror

Before you buy, see how the mirror you like is powered. If an LED mirror is wired into the mains, please have a qualified electrician fit it. That is especially important in a bathroom, where electrical work has its own rules, and an electrician can also place the switch or pull cord where it is easy to reach.

A few of the mirrors run on batteries, which suits a spot where wiring one in isn't practical, such as a rented home or a cloakroom with no wiring by the basin. However the light is powered, think about how you will switch it on, so it is easy to use when you are getting ready.

Cleaning an LED mirror

Switch the mirror off and let it cool before you clean it. Spray a little glass cleaner onto a soft, lint-free cloth rather than onto the mirror, so no liquid runs into the edges or the electrics behind, then buff the glass dry with a clean cloth. Dust metal frames with a dry cloth. Alabaster is soft and porous, so dust it gently and keep water and cleaning sprays well away from it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an electrician to fit an LED mirror?

Yes, if the mirror is wired into the mains: we'd always use a qualified electrician, especially in a bathroom, where the wiring rules are stricter. They can also suggest a handy spot for the switch.

Can I use an LED mirror in the bathroom?

Yes, if the mirror is made for it. Many of ours suit the bathroom; before you buy, check the product page to make sure the mirror you like suits a damp room. Some carry an IP rating against splashing water, and your electrician can tell you whether that rating works where you plan to hang it.

Do any of your LED mirrors have a demister or shaver socket?

Yes. Some have a demister to help keep steam off the glass after a shower. A few have a shaver socket, handy if you shave at the basin.

Is warm or cool white light better for shaving and make-up?

Cool white, at 4000K, is usually the better choice, as its crisp light makes detail and colour easier to judge. Warm white is softer and suits a bedroom or hallway mirror that is more about mood. Check the light colour on the product page before you buy.

Can I dim an LED mirror?

Check the product page before you plan on dimming, as some of ours are not dimmable. A non-dimmable mirror belongs on an ordinary switch, never a dimmer, so for a softer evening light, add a dimmable lamp nearby.

Is there an LED mirror I can hang without wiring?

Yes, a few of ours run on batteries, so there is no mains supply to arrange. They suit a rented home, or a wall where running a cable would be awkward.

How do I choose the right size of LED mirror?

Measure your wall and compare it with the dimensions on the product page, leaving a margin of wall around the mirror so it doesn't look cramped. Above a basin, a mirror slightly narrower than the basin or vanity unit looks balanced, and checking the weight helps you pick fixings that suit your wall.
