Description
B.Ambi 1 is a square backlit mirror 70cm each way, with the light coming from behind all four edges and falling on the wall as a halo rather than out of the mirrored face. The reflection itself is never lit, so it stays a mirror to use rather than a light to look at, and the glow reads as a soft square of brightness around the glass. A touch sensor set into the lower edge switches it.
That suits a bathroom, where it is rated to go, or a cloakroom where a single fitting has to do both jobs. Backlighting behind the glass gives even light across a face without the shadows a downlight above a mirror throws, which is the practical reason to choose it over a ceiling fitting. It hangs in one direction, since the sensor sits at the bottom. At 10kg and 3cm deep it is a one person lift, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. A version with a heating mat behind the glass is also made.
The mirror is mirrored glass on a metal carrier with an integrated LED. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and keep liquid away from the sensor and the lit edges. The light sits behind the glass rather than inside a diffuser on the face, so there is no lit panel to discolour with age and nothing on the mirrored surface to clean around. Because the glow lands on the wall, the wall colour changes it: on white it reads as light, on a deep colour it reads as an outline. Seven year warranty on the mirror and two years on the LED, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
Where does the light come from?
Behind all four edges, falling on the wall as a halo. The mirrored face itself is never lit.
How is it switched?
A touch sensor set into the lower edge of the frame.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem.
Does it clear when the room steams up?
Not on its own. A version with a heating mat behind the glass is made for that.
What size is it and what does it weigh?
70cm square and 3cm deep, weighing 10kg.
