What string lights add

Outdoor string lights drape a line of bulbs along fences, pergolas and patio edges for relaxed garden lighting. They mark out a seating area, frame a deck or trace a roofline, giving a soft, low-level glow for evenings outside rather than bright task light. The whole range is rated IP44 for outdoor use.

What the range covers

You will find festoon, globe and icicle styles, in warm white and cool white. Several runs are connectable end to end so you can extend the line, and many include a controller with multiple modes and a daily timer. Lengths and bulb counts are listed on each product, so you can match a run to the space.

How to choose a style

Festoon and globe lights give a classic patio look strung overhead between posts. Icicle lights hang down from a fixed line and suit a fence top or eaves. Warm white reads as cosy and relaxed, cool white feels crisper, and an RGBA set lets you change the look for different occasions.

Planning a run

Measure the distance you want to cover and check the listed length of each set before buying, since spacing between bulbs is fixed by the design. Where a longer span is needed, look for connectable sets that link together. A model with a built-in timer switches the lights on and off on a daily cycle without manual effort.

Putting them up

Run string lights along a taut wire or fix them to solid points such as posts, hooks or a pergola frame so they do not sag in the wind. Keep any plug and controller in a sheltered spot away from standing water, and leave a little slack so the line is not pulled tight. Free delivery worldwide on all orders over £99. These sets are weather-resistant at IP44 rather than fully submersible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these string lights safe to leave outside?
Yes, the sets here are rated IP44, which means they withstand rain from any direction and suit gardens, patios and pergolas year round. As with any outdoor lighting, check the plug and any power adaptor sit on a suitable outdoor supply and stay clear of standing water.

Can I join several sets together?
Many of our runs are connectable, so you can link lengths end to end from a single supply point to cover a longer fence line or pergola. The product page states whether a set is connectable and its total length, which helps you plan the run before ordering.

What colours and lighting effects can I choose?
Options include warm white at around 3000K for a soft glow, crisp cool white near 6000K, dual warm and cool white, and multi-coloured RGBA sets. Several heavy-duty strings ship with a controller offering eight lighting modes and a 24-hour auto-timer, and some topiary ball designs run on battery.

What styles of bulb are in the range?
You will find round globe strings, festoon lamps, hanging icicle and garland strings, and decorative topiary ball lights. Most use integrated LEDs that draw little power, while a few designs take E27 bulbs, so check the fitting listed if you want to swap lamps later.
