Description
The LYYT Battery Topiary Ball Light is a 9.5m LED string carrying 120 multicolour LEDs spaced at 80mm intervals on black cable, powered by three AA batteries housed in a weatherproof IP44-rated battery box. The string is designed to be wrapped around topiary balls, shrubs, hanging baskets and outdoor features where mains power is unavailable or impractical.
Eight pre-programmed lighting modes allow the user to switch between static glow, slow fade, fast flashing and various chase patterns using a button on the battery box. Once switched on, the lights run on an automatic 6-hour on, 18-hour off timer cycle, repeating daily without requiring manual intervention. This makes the string suitable for front gardens, patios, balconies and event decorations where setting a consistent lighting schedule simplifies operation.
The IP44 rating protects the battery compartment and LED connections against splashing water, making the string safe for outdoor use in typical UK weather conditions. The black cable blends into foliage during daylight, and the 232g weight means the string drapes easily around plants without pulling branches down. The 10.5m total length includes a 1m lead from the battery box to the first LED.
Three AA batteries (sold separately) power the string. LED lifespan is rated at thousands of hours, and the multicolour palette cycles through red, green, blue, yellow, purple and white tones depending on the selected mode. The battery box includes a hanging loop for attaching to branches or hooks.

Frequently Asked
What batteries are required and how long do they last?
The string requires three AA batteries, not included. Battery life depends on the lighting mode selected and battery quality, but typical alkaline AAs provide 30-50 hours of continuous use. Rechargeable AAs can be used for repeated seasonal installations.
Can the timer cycle be turned off?
The 6-hour on, 18-hour off timer is automatic once the battery box is switched on. If continuous lighting is needed, the string would need to be manually switched off and on again after the 6-hour cycle completes.
Is the battery box safe to leave outdoors?
The IP44 rating protects against splashing water, so the box can remain outdoors during light rain. For extended outdoor use in heavy or persistent rain, placing the battery box under shelter or inside a waterproof enclosure extends its lifespan.
What are the eight lighting modes?
LYYT strings typically offer a mix of static glow, slow fade, fast flashing, sequential chase, wave and combination patterns. The exact sequence is cycled by pressing the mode button on the battery box.
