Arched Mirrors

Arched mirrors take the soft curved top of a doorway or window, working as wall, leaner and overmantle pieces. Frames come in gold, black, silver and white, in wood and resin, at large and extra-large sizes. An arched mirror adds architectural height above a console, mantel or along a hallway without the weight of a heavy rectangular frame.

Arched mirrors: architectural height

An arched mirror takes the soft curved top of a doorway or window and brings that shape to a wall or floor. It adds a sense of architectural height and a window-like quality, opening up a room without the bulk of a heavy rectangular frame. US shoppers search the same shape as an arch mirror or arched wall mirror; the edit here serves both terms.

Wall, leaner and overmantle forms

The range covers three formats. Arched wall mirrors hang flat and suit a hallway, above a console or beside a door. Arched leaner mirrors are tall floor-standing pieces that rest at a shallow angle against the wall, good for bedrooms and dressing areas; tall leaners should be anchored with an anti-tip strap. Arched overmantle pieces are proportioned to sit above a fireplace, lower and wider than a hanging wall mirror.

Finishes and sizing

Arched frames come in gold, black, silver and white, mostly in wood, at large and extra-large sizes. A gold arch reads warm and classical; a black arch reads sharp and architectural; white frames suit Scandinavian and country rooms. For a hallway or above a console, allow a tall, narrow piece hung portrait; for a mantel, a wider arched overmantle sits lower across the chimney breast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between arched wall, leaner and overmantle mirrors?
Arched wall mirrors hang flat and suit a hallway, above a console or beside a door. Arched leaner mirrors are tall floor-standing pieces that rest at a shallow angle against the wall, good for bedrooms and dressing areas. Arched overmantle mirrors are proportioned to sit above a fireplace, lower and wider than a hanging wall mirror.

Do tall arched leaner mirrors need securing to the wall?
Yes. A tall leaner rests at a shallow angle against the wall and should be anchored with an anti-tip strap so it cannot be pulled or knocked over, which matters in any home with children or pets. The strap fixes the mirror back to the wall while it still leans, keeping the look while removing the risk.

What finishes and sizes do arched mirrors come in?
Arched frames come in gold, black, silver and white, mostly in wood, at large and extra-large sizes. A gold arch reads warm and classical, a black arch reads sharp and architectural, and white frames suit Scandinavian and country rooms. The shape adds height without the bulk of a heavy rectangular frame.

Why choose an arched mirror over a rectangular one?
An arched mirror takes the soft curved top of a doorway or window and brings that shape to a wall or floor, adding a sense of architectural height and a window-like quality. It opens up a room and draws the eye upward, which suits a hallway, a mantel or a stretch of wall above a console where a plain rectangle would feel heavier.

How do I position an arched mirror above a fireplace or console?
For a mantel, choose a wider arched overmantle piece that sits lower across the chimney breast. For a hallway or above a console, a taller, narrower arched mirror hung portrait makes the most of the height. In both cases, allow a little clear wall around the frame so the curved top has room to read.
