Description

Orient is a full length mirror 80cm by 180cm, flat sided and closing into a half round at the top, with silver leaf applied by hand over the glass. The arch is the whole shape rather than a detail: the sides run straight for most of the height and then turn in a single curve, with no frame anywhere on it.

An arch reads softer on a wall than a rectangle of the same size, which is why it works well at the end of a hallway or behind a bed where a hard top edge would feel abrupt. At 180cm it returns a full length reflection. The leaf gives the surface a shifting quality rather than a flat mirror finish, so it is doing decorative work as much as reflective work. It hangs one way up only, for obvious reasons. It is not rated for a bathroom, so keep it out of a wet room. At 26.5kg it is the heaviest mirror of its size in this part of the range and worth two people.

Hand applied leaf means the coverage is not uniform and no two panels are quite alike, which is the point of doing it by hand. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth, never onto the glass, and keep water off the leafed areas. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied and nothing needs assembling. Because the leaf sits behind the glass surface it cannot be rubbed off in normal use, but a heavy knock to the edge will show. It is made in Europe and designed in house.
