What reading lights do

Reading lights are wall-mounted LED fittings made for bedside and study use, giving focused, mostly warm white task light just where you need it. They keep a page or a desk lit without flooding the whole room, which suits late reading beside a bed or close work at a desk. Most are integrated LED and rated IP20 for indoor use.

What the range covers

The range includes fittings with an on-board switch, a USB-C charger and an adjustable arm, with narrow or wide beams to suit different tasks. Finishes run from sand white and matt black to satin nickel, in compact, modern shapes, with a few in antique brass. Most are integrated LED in a metal build, sized to sit neatly beside a bed or above a desk.

Where to position them

Mount a bedside reading light at about shoulder height when sitting up, so the beam falls onto the page rather than into your eyes. Over a desk or in a study, place it to the side of the working area to avoid casting your own shadow across what you are reading.

Choosing features

An adjustable arm lets you aim the light precisely and tuck it away when not in use. A built-in switch means you can turn it off without reaching for a wall plate, and a USB-C charger keeps a phone or e-reader topped up on the bedside. A narrow beam concentrates light on a book, while a wider beam covers more of a desk.

Bedside or study

For a bedroom, a fixed compact head keeps things simple, while an adjustable arm gives more control for varied reading positions. In a study, prioritise reach and a steady beam over the work surface. Frequently Asked Questions

Where should a bedside reading light be mounted?
Mount it at roughly shoulder height when you are sitting up in bed, so the beam reaches the page rather than shining into your eyes. An adjustable arm makes it easier to fine-tune the angle.

Do these reading lights take a separate bulb?
Most are integrated LED, so the light source is built in rather than using a replaceable bulb. Most fittings give a focused warm white light suited to reading.

What is the USB-C charger for?
Some models include a USB-C charger built into the fitting, so you can keep a phone or e-reader topped up at the bedside without a separate plug nearby.

What is the difference between a narrow and a wide beam?
A narrow beam concentrates light on a book or a small area, which is ideal beside a bed. A wider beam spreads further and suits covering more of a desk for study.

Can reading lights be used in a bathroom?
No. These fittings are rated IP20 for indoor use, so they are intended for dry rooms such as bedrooms, studies and living rooms rather than bathrooms.
