Description

The Rak is a single-light wall reading light in silver grey with an extendable arm, adjustable head and an integrated rocker switch on the backplate. The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) and extends up to 275mm from the wall when fully deployed, allowing the light to be positioned over a bedside, desk surface or reading chair.

Designed for bedrooms, home offices and reading corners where direct task lighting is needed without a fixed overhead fitting, the Rak mounts to a standard wall plate and the arm pivots at two points to angle the light head. The integrated switch on the backplate means the light can be turned on and off without reaching for a wall switch or table control, which suits bedside installations where a second person may be sleeping.

The silver grey powder-coated finish sits between polished chrome and matt black, giving a softer metallic tone that pairs with both warm and cool colour schemes without the high reflectivity of polished metals. The backplate measures 145mm wide and the fitting weighs 1kg once installed, which is light enough for plasterboard walls with appropriate fixings. The GU10 socket accepts LED, halogen or CFL bulbs, and dimmer compatibility depends on the bulb chosen.

The two pivot points let the arm fold back against the wall when not in use and reach out over the target area when needed. The 300mm height and 275mm projection together define how far the head sits from the wall, so the light clears a pillow or headboard and falls onto the page rather than the wall behind. The Rak takes a single GU10 bulb, sold separately. We suggest pairing this with a 4-6W GU10 LED in warm white (2700K-3000K) for reading, though the fitting accepts any GU10 up to the wattage rating shown on the backplate label.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulb chosen. The fitting itself is compatible with dimmable GU10 LEDs when paired with a suitable wall dimmer, but not all GU10 LEDs are dimmable. Check the bulb specification before pairing with a dimmer switch.

How far does the arm extend?

The arm extends up to 275mm from the wall when fully deployed. The arm pivots at two points, allowing the light head to be angled over a bedside table, desk or chair without needing the backplate to be offset from the centre of the reading position.

Can the light be switched off without a wall switch?
