Extra sockets where the wall has none

Extension leads and cable reels bring power to where it is needed, whether that is across a room, out into the garden or down a long workshop. They take the strain off fixed sockets and let you run tools, appliances and chargers from a single feed without rewiring the wall.

Extension leads for everyday use

Extension leads cover a range of gang counts across short and longer lengths, with switched, surge protected and neon indicator versions to suit the job. Surge protected leads guard sensitive electronics, switched leads let you cut power without unplugging, and trailing sockets and single extension sockets rated 13A handle simpler needs. Surge protected tower extensions are stocked for desks and media setups where several devices cluster together.

Cable reels for longer runs

Cable reels carry power over longer distances and wind neatly away when the job is done. Reels run from shorter to longer lengths on multi-gang heads with a thermal cut-out that guards against overheating if the cable is left coiled under load. Weatherproof leads suit outdoor jobs where rain and dust are a concern.

How to choose

Match the gang count to how many things you need to plug in, and the length to how far the power has to travel. Pick a reel rather than a flat lead for long runs and tools, choose surge protection for electronics, and a weatherproof rated lead for anything used outdoors. Always unwind a reel fully when running heavier loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

What length and how many sockets can I get?
Extension leads here run from 1 gang up to 8 gang, in 1m, 2m, 3m and 5m lengths. Tower extensions go further with 8 and 12 gang surge protected versions. Cable reels are mostly 4 gang and come in 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m and 25m, so you can match the reach to the job.

Why do the cable reels have a thermal cut-out?
A reel left coiled while carrying a heavy load can heat up, so the thermal cut-out trips to protect it. For that reason it is best to unwind a reel fully before drawing a high current through it, which lets the cable shed heat rather than building it up on the drum.

Is there anything rated for outdoor use?
Yes. The weatherproof options include a 1 gang IP54 lead at 5m, an IP65 power extension lead and a 2 gang weatherproof reel at 20m, all built to resist water ingress. There is also an outdoor string light extension lead rated IP44 for garden lighting runs.

What is the difference between a switched lead and a surge protected one?
A switched lead has an on and off switch so you can cut power without unplugging. A surge protected lead adds protection that helps shield connected equipment from voltage spikes, which suits computers and media gear. Several leads here combine both, and some carry a neon indicator to show when they are live.
