Description

The Knightsbridge 13A 4-gang extension lead provides four child-protected UK sockets on a single housing with a 3m cable run from a standard 13A BS plug. A neon indicator on the housing glows red when the extension is powered, giving instant visual confirmation that the unit is live without needing to test each socket individually.

Designed for domestic, home office and light commercial use, the extension sits flat on desks, floors or worktops with a low 28mm profile that slides under most furniture plinths. The angled socket apertures prevent the housing from tipping backwards when multiple plugs are inserted, keeping the cable routing stable even when all four sockets carry load. The 248mm x 50mm footprint fits neatly behind TV stands, along kitchen worktops and under desks without taking significant floor space.

The housing is moulded from thermoset resin rather than thermoplastic, giving higher resistance to heat from sustained high-draw appliances and better impact resistance if dropped. Each of the four sockets carries the full 13A rating, allowing a total distributed load of up to 3,120W across the unit before the plug fuse trips. The child-protected shutters inside each socket prevent foreign objects from entering the live apertures unless a standard UK plug is inserted with equal pressure on both pins.

The 3m cable length gives reach from a wall socket to a desk centre, behind a sofa, or across a room to a workstation without needing a secondary extension. What does the 13A rating mean in practice?

Each socket can carry up to 13A, but the total load across all four sockets combined cannot exceed 13A (3,120W at 240V) before the fuse in the plug trips. For example, four devices drawing 3A each would be within the limit, but four devices drawing 5A each would exceed it.

What are child-protected sockets?

Spring-loaded shutters inside each socket aperture prevent objects from entering the live pins unless equal pressure is applied to both the live and neutral apertures simultaneously, which only happens when inserting a standard UK plug. This prevents children from inserting single-pin objects like keys or screwdrivers.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating means the housing provides no protection against water ingress. The extension is designed for indoor use only in dry environments. For outdoor or damp-location use, an IP44 or higher rated extension is required.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon glows when the extension is connected to a live power source and switched on at the wall socket. It confirms the extension is powered without needing to plug a device in to test it.
