Outdoor Pendant Lights

Outdoor pendant lights hang a point of light over a porch, doorway or covered patio, and this range runs from clear-glass globes to chain-hung lanterns, in finishes from black through copper and white. Most take a standard E27 bulb, and many carry an IP44 rating for sheltered spots, with a few at IP54 and higher for more exposed positions. Single-light designs sit alongside two and three-light builds for wider entrances.

What the outdoor pendant range covers

Outdoor pendant lights hang a point of light over a porch, doorway or covered patio. The range runs from clear-glass globes to chain-hung lanterns, in finishes such as black, white and bronze, with metal, aluminium and glass in the mix, and a few in rattan and wood. Most take a standard E27 bulb, so you can pick the lamp to suit, and warm or soft white is the usual choice. Single-light designs sit alongside two and three-light builds for wider entrances.

Globe and lantern styles

Opal and clear-glass globes give a soft, even glow that suits a porch or a modern covered area. Chain-hung lanterns bring a more traditional look, working well over a period doorway or a porch with some height to drop into. Finishes range from clean matt white and black through to bronze for a weathered, classic feel. Two and three-light pendants spread light over a broader entrance where a single globe would not be enough.

Weather rating and hanging

Many fittings carry an IP44 rating for sheltered spots such as a porch ceiling or covered patio, with a few IP54 and higher options for more exposed positions. Hang a pendant under a roof, soffit or other cover rather than fully in the open, and drop it to a height that lights the area without sitting in the line of sight of anyone passing through. Allow enough headroom over a doorway or seating, and keep chain-hung designs clear of swing where wind can reach.

Choosing the right pendant

Start with the spot: a low porch suits a compact globe, while a taller covered entrance can carry a chain-hung lantern. Match the finish to the door and walls, from crisp white to aged bronze or verdigris, and choose single or multi-light to suit the width of the area. Check the weather rating against how sheltered the position is, picking a higher figure for less covered spots. With E27 fittings throughout, you set the bulb tone yourself. Frequently Asked Questions

Are these pendants suitable for an exposed spot or only under cover?
It depends on the IP rating shown on each product. Many here are IP44, which suits porches, covered doorways and sheltered patios where rain does not hit them directly. Designs rated IP54 and IP55 cope with more exposure, so check the figure listed and match it to how open your fixing point is.

What bulb do outdoor pendant lights take?
The majority use a standard E27 screw-cap bulb, with a smaller number of multi-light lanterns on the slimmer E14 cap. The bulb fitting is listed on each product page so you can pick the right lamp. Warm white bulbs give the soft glow most people want over a doorway or seating area.

What finishes and styles are available?
Finishes span black, weathered and aged bronze, copper and white. Styles run from traditional chain-hung lanterns through to clean modern globes in glass and polycarbonate, so you can match a period porch or a contemporary entrance. Sizes range from small to large drops for taller spaces.

Can I fit a hanging outdoor pendant myself?
These are mains-fixed fittings wired into an existing outdoor circuit, so we recommend a qualified electrician installs them and confirms the fixing point is sound. Note the listed drop and width against the height you have, since chain-hung designs need clearance below for safe headroom.
