Description

The Miners is a 370mm tall outdoor pendant lantern styled after traditional mining lamps, with a cage frame in old bronze finish surrounding a seeded glass cylinder. The pendant houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating, making it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, carports, garden rooms and entrance canopies.

Supplied with 1250mm of chain, the drop is adjustable during installation from a minimum of 455mm to a maximum of 1560mm, allowing the lantern to be set at the appropriate height above a doorway, path or seating area. The old bronze finish is a dark, slightly textured metal coating with natural tonal variation that develops character over time when exposed to the elements. The seeded glass inside the cage diffuses the light from the bulb, softening glare while maintaining visibility of the filament or LED element.

The 200mm width and vertical proportions suit narrower porch ceilings and side entrances where a wider lantern would overhang the covered area. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, but the pendant is designed for installation under a roof overhang rather than fully exposed positions. The cage structure references historic miners' safety lamps while the old bronze and seeded glass give the fitting a heritage appearance that pairs with stone, brick and timber exteriors.

IP44 provides protection against splashing water from any direction, making the Miners suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches, carports and entrance canopies. It is not rated for fully exposed positions where driving rain hits the fitting directly.

What bulb is recommended?

The E27 fitting accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W. A warm-white LED bulb of 6-8W at 2700K works well with the seeded glass and old bronze finish, creating an amber glow through the textured glass. Filament-style LED bulbs suit the vintage lantern aesthetic.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

The 1250mm chain is adjustable during installation to any drop between 455mm and 1560mm. Once installed and the excess chain removed, the height is fixed unless re-installed. Plan the drop height before cutting the chain.

How is the old bronze finish maintained outdoors?

The old bronze finish develops a natural patina over time when exposed to the elements. This is expected and adds character. To slow patina development, wipe the metal frame occasionally with a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire brushes that would strip the finish.
