What lamp holders are for

Lamp holders are the fittings that hold a bulb and connect it to the supply, used for repairs, replacements and building your own pendants. They cover everything from a plain batten holder on a ceiling to a finished pendant cord set ready to hang. Most are rated IP20 for indoor use.

What the range covers

The range spans ES and E27 caps. You will find batten holders with a ceiling rose and pre-wired pendant sets on cable up to 1.8m. Finishes include chrome, brass, black and white, mostly in metal, so a fitting can be matched to a shade or to other metalwork in the room.

Choosing the right cap

Match the holder to the bulb you intend to use. ES and E27 are the common larger caps for general bulbs. Checking the cap type on both the bulb and the holder before buying avoids ending up with a fitting that will not take the lamp you already have.

Batten holders and pendant sets

A batten holder with a ceiling rose gives a simple bulb fitting straight onto the ceiling, handy for utility spaces, hallways and lofts where a bare bulb is enough. A pendant cord set drops the bulb on a length of cable, ready to take a shade, with sets here on cable up to 1.8m so you can set the hanging height to suit the room.

Fitting and safety

Pick a holder rated for the bulb and the position. Free delivery worldwide on all orders over £99. Any fixed mains wiring is best left to a qualified electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions

What lamp cap fittings do you stock?
The range covers ES (Edison screw, E27) holders, along with a few BC (bayonet, B22), GU10 and MR16 (GU5.3) options. That spread suits most ceiling fittings, table lamps and downlight conversions across the home.

What is the difference between a batten holder and a pendant set?
A batten holder mounts flat to a ceiling or wall, often with an integral rose, so the bulb sits close to the surface. A pendant set hangs the holder on cable, here from around 1.2m to 1.8m, to drop the bulb lower over a table or worktop.

Are ceramic lamp holders worth choosing?
A few ceramic GU10 and MR16 holders come with heat-resistant fly leads, which makes them a sensible pick for enclosed or higher-wattage fittings where the holder sits close to the lamp. Plastic and metal holders cover most general lighting jobs.

Can these lamp holders be used outdoors?
No. These holders are rated IP20 for dry indoor use, so they suit ceilings, walls and lamps inside the home. For damp or exposed spots you would need a fitting with a higher IP rating.

Who should fit a new lamp holder or pendant set?
Pre-wired pendant sets simply need connecting at the ceiling rose, but anything involving fixed mains wiring should be installed by a qualified electrician. If you are only swapping a like-for-like holder, follow the maker's instructions and isolate the supply first.
