Description

Sometimes a good fitting and the right lamp refuse to agree. This small adaptor settles the argument: it screws into a small Edison screw lampholder and presents a G9 socket at the far end, so a capsule lamp can sit where a candle lamp was once intended. The body is a neat white cylinder, 22mm across and shorter than most of the lamps it will hold, so it stays out of sight inside a shade. It is rated for lamps up to 40W.

We reach for these when someone has found exactly the lamp they want and the fitting will not take it: an inherited pendant, a bedside lamp carried back from a trip, a small chandelier whose arms were built for candle lamps. It suits table lamps, wall lights and shaded fittings where the lampholder is hidden from view, and it is just as handy for trying a G9 capsule in an existing fitting before you commit to anything further. We would choose an LED capsule for it, which keeps both the load and the heat modest.

The casing is white through and through, so it reads as part of the lampholder rather than an addition, and it stays quiet against pale flex and ivory shade linings. Give it a dry wipe when the lamp next comes out, and keep water and sprays well away from the contacts. It carries a one year warranty. We keep a wider set of converters alongside it, including E14 to E27 and E14 to GU10, plus B22 versions and inline dimmers in clear, black and white, so most mismatches between lampholder and lamp can be sorted for the price of a coffee.
