Globe Pendant Lights

A globe pendant is a sphere on a drop: the simplest shape in lighting and the hardest to get wrong. We hand-pick them in opal, clear and smoked glass, as single globes over a table or in clusters at staggered heights.

Opal, clear or smoked

Opal glass hides the lamp and gives an even glow, which suits a globe hung at eye level over an island or a table. Clear glass shows the filament, so it wants a decorative bulb and looks best where the fitting is above the sightline. Smoked glass sits between the two and reads darker when it is off, which matters in a room where the light spends most of its time unlit.

One globe or a cluster

A single globe is a quiet fitting: it marks a spot without dominating it. A cluster of globes at staggered heights fills a volume instead: a stairwell, a double-height hall, the space over a long table. The trick with a cluster is the spread rather than the count; three globes hung well cover more than six hung in a bunch.

Drop and ceiling height

Most globe pendants hang on adjustable cable and can be set on site. Some are fixed at manufacture and cannot be shortened, which matters under a low ceiling or over a walkway. Every product page states the drop and whether it adjusts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a globe pendant light?
A pendant whose shade is a sphere, hung on a rod or cable. The globe may be opal, clear or smoked glass, and the fitting may carry one globe or several.

Which glass should I choose?
Opal for an even glow and a hidden lamp, clear where you want to see a decorative bulb, smoked where the fitting should read dark when it is off.

How low should a globe pendant hang over a table?
Far enough to light the surface without blocking the eyeline across it. Check the drop on the product page and whether it can be adjusted on site.

Can I use a globe pendant in a bathroom?
Only where the fitting carries an IP rating suitable for the zone. Where we hold an IP rating we state it; where we do not, please ask before assuming.

Do globe pendants come with bulbs?
Usually not: most take a standard socket so you can choose the output yourself. Fittings with an integrated LED say so.

How do I clean a glass globe?
Switch off, let the lamp cool, then wipe with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners on opal glass, which scuffs.
