Description
Five opal glass globes drop from a round satin nickel plate, each shade open at the mouth so light falls down onto the surface below as well as glowing softly through the glass itself. The suspensions are adjustable, which means the globes can hang level in a neat cluster or be staggered at different heights to suit the shape of the room. The plate measures 45cm across, gathering the whole group into a broad circle rather than a straight line, so it reads well over a round or square table.
There needs to be a little height for it to work properly, so we would hang it over a dining table, above a kitchen island, or in a stairwell where the drop can be let right out. Each holder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, so the light stays gentle and spread out rather than concentrated and glaring. It is dimmable, provided the lamps you choose are dimmable and a separate dimmer is fitted, and that is how we would run it in a dining room. The circuit needs an earth connection.
Satin nickel gives the metalwork a low sheen that keeps the attention on the opal glass, and the pairing sits comfortably with either warm or cool decoration. For cleaning, let the lamps go cold, then take the dust off the globes with a soft cloth and follow with a barely damp one on the glass only, drying the nickel as you go. It carries a one year warranty. The Lori range also runs to compact flush fittings in antique gold and polished chrome, some of them with the same open mouth globe shades, so the same idea can carry on into a landing or cloakroom. Lamps are not included.

Frequently Asked
How high or low can it hang?
The drop is adjustable from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm fully extended, so it can sit close under a standard ceiling or reach well down over a table or stairwell.
What lamps does it take?
It takes five E27 lamps, each rated up to 20W. LED lamps are the sensible choice, and a shape that suits an open-mouthed globe shade will look best.
Can it be dimmed?
Yes, with dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.
How wide is it overall?
The ceiling plate is 450mm in diameter, with the five globes suspended within that circle.
How should the opal globes be cleaned?
Switch off and wait until the lamps are cold, dust with a soft dry cloth, then use a barely damp cloth on the glass if marks remain. Keep moisture off the nickel and dry any splashes straight away.
How heavy is it?
The fitting weighs 5.8kg.
