Alabaster Mirrors

Our alabaster mirrors are backlit wall mirrors with shades worked from natural alabaster stone, lit by integrated LED. The stone's veining diffuses the light into a soft, warm glow around the mirror itself. Two designs in the range: brushed brass and soft white, both at a large size suited to bedrooms, hallways and living rooms. We ship to the UK, US and worldwide.

Our Niori alabaster mirrors: illuminated wall mirrors in natural stone

Our alabaster mirrors are illuminated wall mirrors with backlit alabaster shades, the natural stone diffusing integrated LED light through its veining. The range carries two designs at present: the Lumessa in brushed brass and the Solviera in soft white. Both are large-format wall mirrors built around a single sheet of real alabaster, so the light that frames the mirror reads as a soft, warm halo rather than a hard LED edge.

These pieces sit in a slightly different category from plain alabaster-framed mirrors. The alabaster here is the light source, not just decorative trim. That makes the range a good fit for bedrooms above a dressing table, hallways near an entrance, or living-room walls where directed glare from a downlight would feel harsh.

What is alabaster

Alabaster is a soft, translucent natural stone used in lighting for thousands of years. The variety used in modern work is gypsum alabaster, hand-cut and finished into shades that allow light to pass through rather than bounce off. Every block carries its own pattern of veining and mineral character, so no two alabaster mirror lights look identical even within the same model.

This matters for buyers comparing options. Some pieces sold as alabaster are actually frosted glass or moulded resin shaped to mimic stone. The alabaster in our range is real natural stone, cut from selected blocks. The glow you see when the LED is on is shaped by the stone's internal structure, not printed onto a synthetic substitute.

Brushed brass and soft white finishes

The two designs split across two finishes. The Lumessa Alabaster Mirror Light pairs the alabaster panel with brushed brass metalwork, which reads warm against neutral walls and works well alongside walnut, oak and antique brass fittings elsewhere in the room. The Solviera Alabaster Mirror Light uses a soft white frame in a more minimalist register, suited to contemporary bedrooms, pale plaster walls and Scandinavian-influenced interiors.

Both designs are large-format wall mirrors with integrated LED, so no separate bulb purchase or wiring of external fittings is needed. Hardwiring to a wall point gives the cleanest install; an electrician should handle the connection.

Care and cleaning for alabaster mirror lights

Alabaster is durable but slightly porous, so it asks for gentler care than glass. Dust the stone with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid feather dusters, which can leave fine scratches over time. For light marks, use a soft cloth dampened with plain water, then dry the surface fully. Do not use soap, alcohol-based cleaners, glass sprays or abrasive cloths on the alabaster panel; these can erode the stone's finish.

The mirror glass itself can be cleaned in the normal way with a soft cloth and standard glass cleaner, but take care to avoid letting cleaner run onto the alabaster edge. Switch the LED off before cleaning and let any moisture dry before turning it back on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an alabaster mirror?

In our range, an alabaster mirror is an illuminated wall mirror with a backlit alabaster shade. The natural stone sits around or behind the mirror glass and diffuses integrated LED light through its veining, producing a soft halo of warm light rather than a hard LED edge. This is different from a plain alabaster-framed mirror, where the stone is decorative trim only and the mirror is not itself a light source. Both our current designs, the Lumessa and the Solviera, are backlit alabaster wall mirrors of this type.

Is the alabaster real natural stone?

Yes. The alabaster in our mirror lights is real natural stone, hand-cut from selected blocks of gypsum alabaster. It is not frosted glass, resin or a moulded synthetic substitute. Because each block has its own veining and mineral pattern, two units of the same model will look subtly different from one another when lit. This is a property of the material, not a fault.

How do I clean an alabaster mirror light?

Dust the alabaster panel gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or light marks, use a soft cloth dampened with plain water and dry the surface fully. Avoid soap, alcohol-based cleaners, glass sprays and abrasive cloths on the alabaster itself, as these can erode the stone's natural finish over time. The mirror glass can be cleaned normally with a soft cloth, but keep cleaner away from the alabaster edge. Switch the LED off before cleaning.

Where can I install an alabaster mirror light?

The two designs in the range are tagged for bedroom, hallway and living-room use. Both work well above a dressing table, on an entrance-hall wall, or as a feature mirror in a sitting area. We do not recommend installing them in bathroom shower or splash zones, as persistent moisture can darken alabaster over time. In a dry zone of a bathroom, set back from the basin, they can work; an IP-rated fixture is the safer choice closer to water.
