Brick Lights

Recessed and surface-mounted brick lights to mark out paths, driveways, steps and patios after dark. This range covers small aluminium and metal fittings, mostly low-wattage LED, in finishes from white and black through grey and blue. Many run warm white at 3000K, with some cool white and daylight, and IP ratings from IP44 upward to match how exposed the spot is.

What brick lights do

Brick lights sit low and close to the ground, throwing a controlled wash of light across paths, driveways, steps and patio edges once the daylight goes. Recessed versions fit flush into a wall or riser so the fitting all but disappears, leaving only the glow, while surface-mounted types sit proud where chasing into masonry is not practical. The aim is the same in both cases: mark out a route and pick out level changes without flooding the whole garden with brightness.

Composition of the range

This is a compact, low-wattage range built mainly in aluminium and metal, with glass and frosted glass on the lens side and polycarbonate where extra toughness helps. Integrated LED is the norm, and many fittings run warm white for a settled outdoor tone, with a few cooler and daylight options where a crisper light suits a modern frontage. Finishes cover white, grey, black and matt black, plus the odd blue unit for something more playful.

Indoor or outdoor

These are outdoor fittings, weather-resistant and rated for exposure to rain and damp. Where an IP rating is given, match it to the spot: a more open, exposed position calls for a higher rating than a sheltered porch or recessed step. Always check the rating on the individual product before fitting.

Placement and spacing

Set step lights into each riser, or every other one, so the tread above catches the light. Along a path or drive, space fittings evenly and aim for pools that overlap gently rather than isolated bright spots. Mounting low keeps glare out of eye line and gives the gentle, grazing effect that suits a wall or border.

How to choose

Start with the cut-out: a recessed light needs a suitable depth and a square or round aperture to match. Decide on warm or cool white, pick a finish that reads against your brickwork or render, and confirm the IP rating fits how sheltered the location is. Mains connection outdoors is best left to a qualified electrician. Free delivery worldwide on all orders over £99.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are brick lights normally used?
They suit paths, driveways, steps, patios and garden walls, set low to wash light across the ground and guide the way. Recessed designs sit flush in the wall, while surface-mounted versions fix on top.

What IP rating do I need outdoors?
The range spans IP44, IP54 and IP65. For exposed positions facing rain and splashing, choose an IP65 fitting. IP44 and IP54 suit more sheltered spots. Each product page lists the rating so you can match it to the location.

What colour of light do these give?
Many are warm white at 3000K for a soft glow, with some cool white and daylight options, plus a few blue fittings for accent use. Filter by colour temperature to find the look you want.

Are they recessed or surface-mounted?
Both. Recessed brick lights are built into the wall for a flush finish, while surface-mount versions fix to the face of the wall. The title and specification make clear which a given light is.

Do I need an electrician to fit one?
These are mains-wired outdoor fittings, so installation and the connection to a fixed supply are best handled by a qualified electrician.
