A good lantern does more than hold a candle. It shelters the flame from draughts, spreads a softer glow across a table or path, and adds a bit of character to whatever spot you place it in. Our lanterns range covers a variety of shapes and sizes, from compact candle lantern designs that sit neatly on a windowsill to taller hurricane lantern styles. The glass panels keep the flame steady while letting the light shine through, so you get plenty of warmth without the worry of a wick blowing out.

Choosing the right lantern for your space

Think about where you plan to use it. A hurricane lantern with a weighted base and metal frame copes well outdoors, standing up to wind and the odd knock. Indoors, a lighter candle lantern works nicely as a centrepiece or clustered in threes along a shelf. We stock finishes ranging from warm browns and greys to gold and clear glass, so you can match them to existing pieces or let them stand on their own.

Our lanterns work with pillar candles, tea lights and battery options, giving you flexibility whatever the occasion. Group a few together for a seasonal display, line them along a garden path for an evening party, or keep one by the door for a welcoming touch. Made to be used often and enjoyed for years, they are a simple way to bring gentle light indoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a candle lantern and a hurricane lantern?
A candle lantern is usually a decorative housing that holds a candle behind glass or open panels, often for indoor use. A hurricane lantern has a fully enclosed glass chimney or heavier construction designed to protect the flame from wind, making it better suited to outdoor conditions.

Can I use these lanterns outdoors?
A few are tagged for outdoor use. Look for weighted bases and durable metal frames if you plan to keep them on a patio or in the garden. We recommend bringing lighter indoor designs inside during wet weather.

What type of candle should I use in a lantern?
Many of our lanterns take pillar candles or tea lights. Match the candle size to the opening so it sits securely and has room around the flame. Battery-operated candles are a safe alternative if you prefer not to use a live flame.

How do I clean the glass on my lantern?
Wipe the glass with a soft, slightly damp cloth once it has fully cooled. For soot marks, a little warm soapy water works well. Dry thoroughly to avoid streaks and never clean while the candle is lit or the metal is still warm.

Are the lanterns safe to leave unattended?
We advise never leaving a lit candle unattended. Place your lantern on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from curtains and other flammable items. For longer displays or overnight use, battery-operated candles are the safer choice.
