Description
These two iron lanterns are shaped like tall, narrow townhouses, each with a pitched roof, a little chimney and rows of small square windows divided into panes. The smaller lantern stands 23cm tall, 14.5cm long and 8cm wide, with two storeys of windows; the larger stands 35.5cm tall, 18cm long and 11cm wide, with three. Both are in grey, with a mottled, aged surface that makes them look as though they have stood through many winters, and a small window sits high in each gable.
They are candle holders first: set a candle inside and its light glows out through every window, so the pair read like a lit street after dark. We think they are at their best on a windowsill through the Christmas months, where the glow shows from outside as well as in, but they sit just as well on a mantelpiece, a sideboard or a hall console. Because the two heights differ, they make an easy grouping on their own, and they suit a Nordic or rustic Christmas scheme, a cottage kitchen or anyone who likes festive decorations quiet rather than glittering.
Both lanterns are made entirely of iron, and the window frames, roof lines and chimneys are formed crisply in the metal. The grey surface varies across each house, with lighter and darker patches that give it the look of old weathered stone. Iron can rust if it is left wet, so a soft dry cloth is the kinder way to dust them, and they are happiest kept indoors. For styling, stand the taller house behind and slightly to one side of the smaller one, then add a few pine cones or a sprig of greenery at their feet; the styling props shown are not included.

What sizes are the two lanterns?
The smaller lantern is 23cm tall, 14.5cm long and 8cm wide, and the larger is 35.5cm tall, 18cm long and 11cm wide.
What are the lanterns made of?
Both lanterns are made of 100% iron, with a grey, mottled surface that gives each little house an aged, weathered look.
How many lanterns do I get?
You receive two lanterns, one smaller and one larger, both shaped like gabled houses with chimneys and rows of paned windows.
Can I put a candle inside them?
