Alma Light

We stock Alma Light across pendant lights, chandeliers, table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights, and almost all of the range is modern in style. Alabaster, glass and iron are among its materials. Most designs have built-in LEDs, and most give a warm white light. A few are rechargeable lamps that work without a cable, so they can go where there is no socket.

Alma Light pendant lights and chandeliers

We stock Alma Light pendant lights and chandeliers for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. Many pair iron with alabaster, and many use glass. Some chandeliers carry glass globes. In a living room, centre a chandelier and let lamps and wall lights fill the corners.

Over a dining table, hang the light low enough to pool on the table but high enough to keep the view across it clear. We also stock designs that run from a pendant light to a matching wall light and floor lamp, so one look can carry through a room.

Alma Light table and floor lamps

Our Alma Light table lamps and floor lamps bring light down to eye level. Set a floor lamp beside a sofa and a pair of table lamps either side of a bed. Some designs come as both a table lamp and a floor lamp, an easy way to tie a room together. A few bring in wood for a warmer feel.

A few are rechargeable lamps. Once charged, they work without a cable, so you can carry one to a sideboard or a corner with no socket nearby. Some are rated for outdoor use, ready for a garden table or terrace.

Alabaster, glass and iron in Alma Light

Most of our Alma Light designs use iron, and the other materials decide how the light feels. Alabaster diffuses light into a soft, even glow that suits a calm room. Some designs use ribbed glass, which adds texture and catches the light. A few designs use opal glass, a milky white that spreads light evenly.

Many use acrylic, which is lighter than glass and less likely to chip. A few designs use crystal for extra sparkle. As a rule, pick alabaster or opal glass for a gentle glow, and ribbed glass or crystal when you want more shine.

Alma Light finishes from black to brass

We stock many designs in black and many in white. Black draws a crisp outline against pale walls, while white sits quietly against a white ceiling. Many come in chrome, and many have a satin finish, which has a soft sheen and shows fewer fingerprints.

Some come in a warmer finish, such as brass, gold or bronze, which suits deeper wall colours. Match the metal you already see in a room, from door handles to switch plates, and the light will look as if it has always been there.

LEDs, bulbs and dimming with Alma Light

Most of our Alma Light fittings have built-in LEDs, so there is no bulb to buy and the light source is part of the design. Most also give a warm white light, a relaxed tone for living rooms and bedrooms after dark.

Many take a large screw-cap bulb instead, which lets you choose the brightness and colour of light yourself. Some take a small screw-cap bulb. Some take small pin-based capsule bulbs, so check the listing before you order bulbs. Many are dimmable, but most are not, so check the product page before pairing a light with a dimmer switch, ideally one made for LEDs.

Alma Light wall and ceiling lights

Our wall lights add a second layer of light at head height. A few have a built-in reading light, so one person can read in bed while the other sleeps. A few flush designs work on either a wall or a ceiling. We also stock a few ceiling lights for rooms where a pendant would hang too low.

Most of what we stock from Alma Light suits a living room, and most suits a dining room. Many designs suit a bedroom, where a wall light beside the bed frees up the bedside table. Some are suited to hallways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Alma Light fittings need a separate bulb?

Most have built-in LEDs, so there is no bulb to choose or buy. Many others take a large screw-cap bulb that you pick to suit the room, so check the listing for the exact fitting before you order one.

Will these lights work with a dimmer switch?

Many are dimmable, but the majority are not, so check the product page before you buy. If you choose a dimmable light, pair it with a dimmer switch made for LEDs to help avoid flicker.

Can I use an Alma Light lamp outside?

A few are rated for outdoor use and can sit on a terrace or garden table. Treat any light without an outdoor rating on its listing as one for indoor use only.

How do the rechargeable lamps work?

A few of our Alma Light lamps are rechargeable. Once you have charged one, it runs without a cable, so it can move between rooms or sit where there is no socket. See the listing for charging details.

What colour of light do Alma Light fittings give?

Most give a warm white light, a cosy tone for living rooms and bedrooms. Where a light takes a separate bulb, you set the colour yourself by choosing the bulb.

Will a chandelier suit a room with a low ceiling?

Check the drop on the listing and leave enough headroom for people to walk underneath. Over a dining table a chandelier can hang lower, as nobody walks beneath it. Where headroom is tight, wall lights, lamps or a flush ceiling light are often the easier choice.

Do I need an electrician to fit a pendant or wall light?

We recommend a qualified electrician for any pendant light, chandelier, wall light or ceiling light that connects to your home's wiring. Table lamps and floor lamps need no installation, which makes them a simple choice if you rent.
