Silver Ceiling Lights

Our silver ceiling lights all have a silver finish, and most are chrome. We also stock nickel, plus satin and brushed sheens. Choose flush or semi-flush fittings in crystal, glass or fabric for living rooms, hallways and bedrooms. Most are dimmable. Many have integrated LED, and we stock fittings that take G9, E14 or E27 bulbs. We keep pendant lights and chandeliers on separate pages.

Silver ceiling light finishes and sheens

Every fitting on this page has a silver finish, but silver varies from one design to the next. Most are chrome. Polished chrome gives a bright, mirror-like surface and is the natural choice if you want the ceiling to sparkle. We also stock nickel, which has a slightly warmer tone and sits well with cream walls and wood floors.

The sheen matters as much as the metal. Most have a polished sheen that catches the light. Satin and brushed finishes give a softer glow. A few are matt. We also stock designs that pair silver with black, white or brass, for a room where silver is an accent rather than the main colour.

Flush or semi-flush silver ceiling lights

We stock flush and semi-flush fittings, and your ceiling height decides between them. A flush light sits tight to the ceiling, so it suits a low ceiling, a landing or a hallway. A semi-flush light sits a little below the ceiling on a short stem or frame, which suits a standard or higher ceiling.

Before you order, check the height in the specification to be sure of headroom, and the diameter against the room: a wide fitting fills a large living room, while a compact one suits a hallway or study. Larger crystal designs can be heavy, so ask your electrician to confirm the ceiling will hold the weight.

Crystal and glass silver ceiling lights

Crystal and glass sit alongside the silver on many of our ceiling lights. Crystal scatters sparkle across the ceiling and walls, which suits a living room or dining room where the fitting is a focal point. Clear glass keeps the look crisp and leaves the light source on show. Frosted and opal glass soften the light and cut glare, which helps in a bedroom, or anywhere you look up at the fitting from a sofa.

We also stock fabric shades for a softer, more relaxed feel. Most of our silver ceiling lights are modern in style. We stock traditional and industrial designs too, so a silver fitting can suit a period hallway as readily as a contemporary kitchen.

Bulbs, LED and dimming in silver ceiling lights

Many of our silver ceiling lights have integrated LED, so the light source is built in and there is no bulb to choose. We also stock fittings that take G9, E14 and E27 bulbs. G9 means a small push-in capsule bulb, E14 a small screw cap used on candle bulbs, and E27 the standard large screw cap, with a wide choice of bulbs. Check the specification for the cap and for whether bulbs are included before you order.

Most are dimmable. To dim a fitting that takes bulbs, you need dimmable bulbs, and an LED fitting may need a dimmer made for LED. We stock warm white, such as 3000K, for living rooms and bedrooms, and cool white, such as 4000K, for kitchens and studies. A few let you change the colour of white.

Silver ceiling lights room by room

Most of our silver ceiling lights suit a living room, and many work well in hallways, bedrooms and dining rooms. We also stock fittings for kitchens and studies, where clear, even light over a worktop or desk matters.

For a bathroom, choose one of the IP44-rated fittings we stock, which are protected against splashing water, and ask a qualified electrician to confirm where in the room it can go. Treat any fitting without IP44 in its specification as a light for a dry room only.

Matching silver ceiling and wall lights

A room feels calmer when its fittings share a single finish, so if you choose a polished chrome ceiling light, pick polished chrome wall lights too. Chrome and nickel are close but not the same: nickel is a little warmer, and side by side the difference shows. Sheen matters as well, since a satin fitting beside a polished one can look like a mismatch.

A few designs on this page can also be fitted to a wall, which makes an exact match easy. Otherwise, our silver wall lights are the place to look. If your ceiling light pairs silver with black or brass, repeat that colour elsewhere in the room so the pairing looks deliberate.

Cleaning a silver ceiling light finish

A silver finish is a plated, painted or leafed surface rather than solid silver, so it needs a light touch. Turn the light off, let it cool, then dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, scouring cream and silver polish, which take a fine layer off the surface and can wear through a finish like this. Take extra care with silver leaf, and only ever dust it.

Glass and crystal can take a slightly damp cloth, dried straight away, but keep moisture off the silver and never spray cleaner onto the fitting. Fingerprints show on a polished finish, so hold the fitting with a cloth when you change a bulb.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a silver ceiling light made of solid silver?

No. The silver is a plated, painted or leafed finish, and most of ours are chrome. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and never use silver polish or anything abrasive, which can wear through it.

Can I put a silver ceiling light in a bathroom?

Only if it is IP44-rated. We stock IP44 fittings, with the rating shown in the specification, and a qualified electrician should confirm where in the bathroom yours can go. Keep any fitting without IP44 for a dry room.

Do the lights on this page come with bulbs?

Check the specification before you order, and plan to buy bulbs separately unless it says they are included. With integrated LED, the light source is part of the fitting, so you will not need a bulb.

Which bulbs will I need?

The cap in the specification tells you. We stock fittings for G9 capsules, E14 small screw bulbs and E27 standard screw bulbs, and if you use LED bulbs, choose the same colour of white throughout so the light looks even.

Are silver ceiling lights dimmable?

Most of ours are. A dimmable fitting still needs a compatible dimmer switch, and dimmable bulbs if it takes bulbs, so check the specification before you buy the switch.

Which fitting suits a low ceiling?

Choose a flush fitting, which sits tight to the ceiling and leaves the greatest headroom. Check its height in the specification, and keep semi-flush designs for standard or higher ceilings.

Should my wall lights match my silver ceiling light?

We suggest a single finish across a room, so match the finish name as well as the colour, such as polished chrome with polished chrome. Our silver wall lights are a good place to start.
