Baymont 3 Light Semi Flush Ceiling Light 50cm - Polished Chrome

A wide, shallow drum in silver leaf, lined with white laminate, held close to the ceiling on a polished chrome frame. The shade is 50cm across, so it reads as a broad disc of light rather than a hanging shape, and the short body keeps everything tight overhead. Three E27 lamps sit within, bouncing light off the pale lining and pushing it out across the room instead of down in a narrow pool.

We reach for this in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom with an ordinary ceiling height, or a dining table in a flat. The silver leaf sits happily in a scheme that already has chrome taps, mirror or glass in it, and it stays quiet enough not to fight patterned walls. Given suitable lamps and a separate dimmer on the circuit, the output can be taken down for evenings, which makes it a sensible choice over a bathroom-free landing or a sitting room used late.

The metalwork is polished chrome, bright rather than brushed, and the shade pairs that shine with a soft leaf texture on the outside and a clean white laminate inside. Keep it looking right by lifting dust from the top edge of the shade with a soft brush, then going over the chrome with a dry cloth; sprays and polishes are best kept away from the laminate. It carries a one year warranty. What size shade does it use?

The shade supplied is 50cm in diameter and 20cm deep, giving an overall height of 22cm at the ceiling.

Which lamps should I fit?

It takes three E27 lamps, up to 20W each. LED GLS A60 lamps are the sensible pick and are the ones we would fit.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with it.

What colour is the shade inside?

The outer face is silver leaf; the inner face is a white laminate, which keeps the light clean and neutral.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces away from splashes and steam.

How do I clean the chrome without marking it?

A dry, soft cloth is all it needs. Avoid abrasive creams and anything containing solvent, as these can dull a polished finish.
