Bover, a lighting maker near Barcelona

Joana Bover founded the company that carries her name in 1996, and Bover is based in Cardedeu, near Barcelona in Spain. It expanded into the United States in 2012, where it has a subsidiary in Atlanta, and the US is now its main market.

Bover describes its design identity as Mediterranean, built on rounded shapes and warm colours, and says its pieces are made by hand with attention to detail. Its aim is to combine traditional craft with contemporary design, and to make light that supports well-being. The company works with LED technology and reuses and recycles components, which is part of why we are glad to stock Bover lighting.

Featured Bover ranges and designers

Bover's featured ranges include Nans, Outrack, Yuyun, Kando, Noren and Fora, and we stock them alongside the wider Bover range. Every product here is made by Bover, so whichever range you start from, the same maker stands behind it.

Joana Bover herself has designed lights we stock, and so have Alex Fernández Camps, Gonzalo Milà, Estudi Manel Molina and Nahtrang Studio. Christophe Mathieu, Ruben Saldaña, Danos Salgados and Benedetta Tagliabue have designed Bover lights we stock too.

Bover pendant lights, wall lights and table lamps

Indoors, we stock Bover pendant lights, wall lights and table lamps. A pendant light makes sense over a dining table, a kitchen island or the centre of a room, where you want the light focused. Over a table, hang it so the light falls on the surface rather than in people's eyes.

Wall lights free up surfaces and put light at eye level in a hallway, on a landing or beside a bed. A table lamp brings light down to where you read or talk, on a side table, a console or a desk. We stock a few ceiling lights too, a good fit for a room with a low ceiling. Some floor lamps complete the indoor side of the range.

Bover outdoor lights for gardens and terraces

Many of the Bover lights we stock are rated for outdoor use, and that rating settles where a light can go. Some carry a higher rating against dust and water, which gives more margin where a light will stand fully in the open. Check the rating on the product page against the spot you have in mind.

We stock outdoor pendant lights to hang from a pergola or a porch roof, outdoor ceiling lights for a covered terrace, and outdoor floor lamps to stand beside a sofa or a lounger. Some outdoor wall lights suit a front door or a garden wall. A few outdoor table lamps bring light to a garden table. Several bollard lights can mark a path or the edge of a lawn.

Warm white and dimming in Bover lighting

Many Bover lights have an integrated LED, so there is no separate bulb to buy. Some take a bulb instead, so check the fitting on the product page first. Many of the lights we stock give a warm white at 2700K, a comfortable light for a living room or a terrace in the evening. We stock lights at 2400K for a warmer, softer glow and at 3000K for a slightly crisper white over a kitchen worktop or a desk. A few go as warm as 2200K, close to the colour of candlelight.

Many Bover lights are dimmable, and many dim from a TRIAC dimmer on the mains, the kind usually fitted to a wall plate, so check that yours suits LED lights. We also stock lights that dim by DALI, which fits a building with a digital lighting control system. A few use push dimming from a simple push switch. Check the product page before you pair a light with a dimmer.

Bover materials and colours

Many Bover lights use aluminium, and we also stock lights in stainless steel, steel and iron. We stock lights in synthetic fibre, cotton and ribbon for a textile finish, and in polyethylene and polycarbonate as well. A few use wood. Choose metal for a crisp, defined look, or a textile finish if you want the light to feel softer.

We stock Bover lights in beige, brown, grey, black and white, with red for a stronger accent, and a few in blue or green. Beige and brown sit easily beside natural materials and warm interiors, while black and grey give a clean outline against a pale wall or a planted border.

Bover track pendants, drivers and system parts

We stock Bover track pendant lights, which hang from a track rather than from their own ceiling point. A track pendant needs a compatible track, so plan the track and its power before you choose the pendants.

We also stock a few track system parts. Some LED drivers are here too, for lights that run from a separate driver. A few lighting accessories round out the parts a system needs. These are parts of Bover's own lighting systems rather than lights in their own right, so match a part to the system it belongs to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Bover lights come with bulbs?

Many of the Bover lights we stock have an integrated LED, so the light source is built in and there is no bulb to fit. Some take a bulb instead, and for those it is worth checking the product page for the fitting and whether a bulb is supplied.

Which Bover lights can be dimmed, and how?

Many of the Bover lights we stock are dimmable, and many use TRIAC dimming from a mains dimmer, so choose a dimmer that suits LED lights. We also stock lights that dim by DALI, for a home or building with a digital control system. A few use push dimming, so check the product page for the method before you buy controls.

Which Bover lights are made for outdoor use?

We stock many Bover lights rated for outdoor use, among them outdoor pendant lights, outdoor ceiling lights and outdoor floor lamps. Several bollard lights are here too, for paths and borders. Some carry a higher rating against dust and water, so compare the rating on the product page with the spot you have in mind.

What else do I need for a Bover track or system light?

A track pendant light hangs from a track, so you need a compatible, powered track in place first. You will find a few track system parts here. We also stock some LED drivers for lights that run from a separate driver, so check the product page for exactly what a light needs.

Where is Bover based, and who designs its lights?

Bover is based in Cardedeu, near Barcelona, and was founded by Joana Bover in 1996, with a design identity it calls Mediterranean: rounded shapes, warm colours and pieces made by hand. Joana Bover has designed lights for her own brand, and the other designers whose Bover lights we stock include Alex Fernández Camps, Gonzalo Milà, Estudi Manel Molina and Nahtrang Studio.

Which colour temperature should I choose for a Bover light?

For a living room, a bedroom or a terrace in the evening, the warm 2700K white that many Bover lights give is a comfortable choice. If you want an even warmer glow, look at the lights we stock at 2400K, or choose 3000K for a slightly crisper white in a kitchen or study.

Do I need an electrician to fit a Bover light?

We recommend a qualified electrician for a light wired into the mains, indoors or out. If it hangs from a track or runs from a separate driver, show them the product page so they can see exactly what it needs.
