Description

The Drep A/04 is a wall light with a glass dome shade hanging from a slim curved arm. The arm and wall plate are Ebony Black, and the shade is borosilicate glass in your choice of Opal White, Amber Mirror, Smoked Mirror or Opal Nude. Inside is an integrated LED, so there is never a bulb to buy or change. It draws 3W and gives 223lm of warm 2700K light with a CRI of 90, which means colours, wood and skin tones look true. It stands 40.1cm tall and reaches 27.8cm out from the wall, with a shade 15.2cm across and a wall plate 15.1cm tall.

There is an on/off switch on the fitting itself, so you can turn it on and off at the light rather than at a wall switch. That makes it a natural bedside light: place one either side of a headboard and each person has their own. In the living room it suits a reading chair or the end of a sofa, and in the dining room a pair on the wall behind a sideboard gives a warm, low glow for evening meals. At 223lm it is a gentle, local light rather than a room's main lighting, so we would pair it with a ceiling light. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The design is by Christophe Mathieu, and its parts are few and plain: a narrow wall plate, a single bent arm and the glass shade. The structure is made from aluminium and iron with an Ebony Black finish, and the shade is borosilicate glass in whichever colour you choose. It runs on 230V mains and is wired in by a qualified electrician, so it needs no socket nearby and leaves no trailing cable down the wall. With the LED built in, there are no bulbs to replace once it is up. Our photographs show the opal white version.
