Closed back and why it matters

A closed back seals the driver behind a solid shell so outside noise stays out and your audio stays in. That is essential anywhere a microphone is recording nearby, since an open design will leak enough for the microphone to hear the backing track.

Impedance and your source

Impedance decides how much voltage is needed for a decent level. Around 32 ohm suits a phone, laptop or mixer headphone socket. Models of 150 ohm and above expect a dedicated headphone amplifier or a proper mixer output stage, and will sound thin and quiet from a phone. Check this before buying, because it is the most common reason a good pair of headphones disappoints.

Fit, seal and comfort

For over-ear, look at clamping force, padding and cup depth, and check whether the earpads can be replaced, since pads always wear before the drivers.
