We built this AV:Link multimedia headset to handle everyday calls, meetings and gaming without any fuss. It pairs a comfortable set of headphones with an omnidirectional boom microphone (US: boom mic), so you can hear clearly and be heard just as well. The 30mm drivers cover a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response, giving you a full sound across music, voice and game audio.

The headset connects by a simple 3.5mm plug, so it works straight away with your PC, laptop, games console or smartphone. There is no software to install and nothing to charge. The 1.8m lead includes an in-line volume control, letting you adjust levels quickly without reaching for your keyboard. For older PCs and notebooks that use separate audio and mic sockets, we include a 3.5mm splitter cable so you can connect either way.

Comfort matters when you wear a headset for long stretches, so we fitted an adjustable headband and soft padded earcups that sit lightly on your head. The microphone has a sensitivity of -40dB and both the headphone and mic run at 32ohm impedance, keeping levels steady on calls. It suits communication apps such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, Cisco Webex and Google Meet, and works just as happily with online games. If you want one dependable headset for work and play, this is a sensible choice.
