Industrial Floor Lamps

Metal frames that set the industrial look

Almost every lamp in our industrial range is built on a metal frame, so the structure itself does the styling work rather than a heavy shade. We carry matt black as the core finish, alongside aged brass, satin brass and brushed gold for a warmer reading, plus chrome, polished chrome, black chrome, polished nickel and satin nickel where you want a cooler, more reflective stem. Two-tone pieces such as brass with a black base, or black paired with gold, are common in this range and suit rooms that already mix metals in their handles, frames and hardware.

If you want to break up the metal, a few designs add other materials. Some carry a fabric or linen shade over the metal arm, one pairs hammered iron with gilded oak, another uses a beech arm against a matt black stem, and a couple bring in clear or smoked glass or a carbon-fibre arc. These keep the raw, functional feel while softening the lamp against timber floors and upholstered seating.

Finish matters more than it looks. A matt black frame recedes against a dark wall and reads as quiet structure, so the light does the talking rather than the metal. A polished chrome or nickel stem catches the light and brightens a darker corner, while a brass, satin gold or copper tone warms a neutral scheme and pairs well with wood and leather. If your room already leans towards one metal in its handles, taps or picture frames, matching that tone keeps the lamp looking deliberate rather than added on. Where you want a little contrast, the two-tone designs let you echo two metals at once.

Adjustable arms for task corners and reading spots

Adjustability is the practical reason most people choose an industrial floor lamp over a fixed column. Several of ours are designed to move, with adjustable-angle heads that tilt the light down over a chair, sofa or desk. That makes them well suited to a reading spot beside an armchair, a task corner next to a desk, or the end of a sofa where you want light on a book rather than across the whole room.

Think about where the light needs to land before you choose a shape. For focused reading or close work, a single-light lamp with a directional head sits the bulb where you want it and keeps glare off the rest of the room. For a softer wash, multi-light designs with three or six heads spread the output more widely and work as ambient light in a corner. Tagged as task or ambient in our range, the two roles often overlap, and an adjustable head lets one lamp do both depending on how you angle it.

The frame style follows the same logic. An arc lamp leans the light out over a coffee table or sofa, so the base can tuck behind the seating while the bulb sits where you actually sit, which is useful when there is no room for a side table. An angle-adjustable head on an upright stem suits a desk or armchair where you want to drop the light close over a book or laptop. Multi-light designs give you a fuller spread for a reading corner that doubles as gentle background light.

Light source, warmth and dimming

You will find two main approaches to the bulb. Many lamps take a standard E27 screw fitting, which lets you pick your own brightness and choose how warm the light feels. Others use an integrated LED rated around 3000K warm white, so the lamp arrives ready to use with the colour already set. A number of designs are dimmable, which is worth looking for in a reading corner where you want to drop the level for evening relaxing and lift it for close work.

Most of these lamps are rated IP20, meaning they are made for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms, porches or anywhere exposed to splashing. That covers the spaces where a floor lamp usually lives, from a living-room corner to a study or bedside reading spot.

Sizing and placing a floor lamp

Industrial floor lamps span small, medium and large footprints, so check the width as well as the height against the gap you have. A slim single-light lamp tucks neatly beside a chair, while an arc or multi-light design needs room to reach out without crowding a walkway. As a rule of thumb, set a reading lamp so the bulb sits roughly at shoulder height when you are seated, which keeps the light on the page and out of your eyes. Place the base where the cable can run to a socket without crossing a route people walk, and keep adjustable heads angled away from screens to avoid reflections.
