Description

The Amphora 03 is a large outdoor floor lamp, its tall rounded shade shaped like an amphora and set on three short legs. It stands 137cm tall and 89cm across, woven in brown synthetic fibre with the look of rattan, and the lamp also uses aluminium, stainless steel and polyethylene. Light glows from a globe set low inside the weave, so the shade lights softly from within. It comes with a choice of light source: LED, non-dimmable; LED, TRIAC dimmable (hardwired); or E27 bulb (not included), which takes two E27 bulbs of up to 15W per bulb. Both LED versions give 400lm of warm 2700K light at 24.7W, with a CRI of 90, and as an integrated LED they need no bulb at all.

Rated IP66, it is made for outdoor use, so it suits a garden, a terrace or a patio, and it is just as much at home in a living room beside a sofa or a wide window. At this size it wants room around it, and it works best where it can be seen from across a lawn or a room. The LED, non-dimmable version and the E27 bulb (not included) version plug in on a 3.9m cable, which makes them easy to move between inside and out. The LED, TRIAC dimmable (hardwired) version is wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician, and dims with a compatible dimmer.

The shade is a close weave of synthetic fibre, and with its IP66 rating the lamp can stay out through wet weather rather than being carried in. It runs on 230V. The design is by Alex Fernández Camps and Gonzalo Milà. A practical note on choosing: take a plug-in version if you want to move it with the seasons, or the LED, TRIAC dimmable (hardwired) version for a fixed spot where you want to set the level of light. The E27 bulb (not included) and LED, non-dimmable versions: it has a plug on its cable, and we include a UK adaptor in the box, so it is ready for a UK socket. Outdoors, the plug and the adaptor must sit in a covered, weatherproof outdoor socket.
