Description

A shallow drum shade in silver leaf, lined with white laminate, sits beneath a polished chrome plate and holds the light close to the ceiling. At 40cm across it reads as a broad, calm circle rather than a tall shape, and the bright metalwork frames it neatly. It takes a single E27 lamp, and we would choose an LED GLS here, up to 20W. Pair it with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer and the level comes down.

Rooms with limited height are where it earns its place: a landing, a hallway, a bedroom where a pendant would swing in the path of a wardrobe door. The wide shade spreads light downwards while the pale laminate lining pushes a good deal of it back into the room, so it also holds up as general light in a small sitting room or a study. We reach for this one where somebody wants the presence of a drum shade without the drop, and it is friendly to shorter ceilings in flats and cottages.
