Description

Five lamps sit beneath a wide drum shade finished in silver leaf, carried on a polished chrome frame that sits close to the ceiling with only a short drop. The shade measures 60cm across, so the fitting reads broad and low rather than deep, and the white laminate lining sends the light back down into the room. The chrome catches whatever daylight is going and keeps the whole fitting looking lighter than its width suggests. Lamps take an E27 socket, and an LED GLS is the shape we would put in.

We reach for this where a ceiling is generous in area but modest in height: a hallway, a square dining room, a large bedroom, a sitting room where a pendant would hang too low over the seating. The lamps spread the load across a wide shade, which suits rooms you want lit evenly rather than in one bright pool. It will dim with suitable lamps and a separate dimmer, so it can drop to something quieter for evenings. At 24cm tall, it keeps well clear of heads and door swings.

The frame is finished in polished chrome throughout, and the shade is a laminated drum with the silver leaf face outside and white inside. Keep it looking well by dusting the shade lightly along its face and buffing the chrome with a soft, barely damp cloth, then drying it off; skip household sprays, which mark laminate. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range runs to satin nickel, antique brass, satin black and white frames in smaller light counts, plus linear pendants if you need length rather than width. Lamps are not included.
