Baymont Frosted Diffuser Semi Flush Silver 40cm - Polished Chrome

A shallow drum in silver leaf, held close to the ceiling on a polished chrome plate, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside and a small polished chrome centre finishing it off. The shade lining is white laminate, so the light that reaches the walls stays clean and neutral rather than picking up a colour cast. At 40cm across it reads as a broad, low disc rather than a hanging shape, and the metalwork is bright enough to catch whatever else is polished in the room.

This is the fitting for rooms where headroom is tight: a landing, a hallway, a bedroom with a sloping ceiling, a small dining room where a pendant would be in the way of a raised glass. The diffuser takes the glare out of the lamp, so it suits spaces you look up in. It holds one E27 lamp and we would fit an LED GLS here for warmth and low running cost. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, both bought separately.

It is an indoor fitting, happiest in dry rooms and best kept clear of steam and damp. The chrome holds its shine with an occasional buff from a dry microfibre cloth, and the diffuser can be wiped with a cloth wrung out well and dried straight after; leave the lamp cool before you touch anything. It carries a one year warranty. How much room does it need below the ceiling?

It measures 400mm across and 380mm overall, with the chrome body itself accounting for 180mm of that, so it stays far tighter to the ceiling than a pendant.

Which lamp should I put in it?

It takes a single E27 lamp up to 20W, and an LED GLS (A60) is the shape we would choose. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a dimmer switch matched to it. Neither is included.

What is the shade made of?

The outer shade is silver leaf over a white laminate lining, and the underside is closed with a frosted acrylic diffuser set with a polished chrome centre.

How do I keep the finish looking right?

Dust the chrome with a dry cloth and lift fingermarks with a barely damp one, drying immediately. Avoid cream cleaners and solvents on the acrylic, as they will haze the frosting.
