Description

A shallow drum shade in silver leaf with a white lining sits close to the ceiling here, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside so the light spreads evenly downward rather than showing the lamps. It measures 30cm across, which suits it to hallways and smaller rooms where a hanging fitting would be in the way. Three E27 lampholders sit behind the diffuser, so there is plenty of output for a room of this size. It takes ordinary GLS lamps, and it will dim where you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer.

We reach for this one in landings, hallways, box rooms and bedrooms with low ceilings, anywhere the head height rules out a pendant but a bare ceiling fitting would look mean. The silver leaf face is warm rather than cold, so it sits happily against white walls and pale timber, and it holds its own against darker paint. This is a fitting for dry rooms indoors, at home in a bedroom or a study rather than a shower room or a porch. We would fit LED GLS lamps rated up to 20W each and then leave them be.
