Description
The Walkway Guard is a small round outdoor wall light made from solid brass in a raw brass finish. A flat circular flange, held by three cross-head screws, frames a frosted glass lens that sits slightly proud of the flange, and over the glass runs a brass guard: a cross of bars with a ring at its centre and another around the edge. The frosted glass spreads the light softly, so nobody walking past looks straight at a bare lamp. It is 14cm across and 7cm deep, compact enough for a narrow path. It is rated IP65, which means dust-tight and protected against jets of water from any direction, so it lives outdoors in British weather, with or without shelter overhead.
We would put it where people walk: on a garden wall beside a path, along a passage at the side of the house or by a porch door. The maker names a garden path or a pub corridor as typical homes for it, and says it is built to take the knocks and scuffs of a busy space; the guard puts brass between the glass and a passing elbow or wheelbarrow. The maker says its wall lights are designed for outdoor places that call for an industrial or nautical look, and that the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names. A few of them in a row along a walkway read like portholes down the side of a ship.
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw brass finish settles over time from bright gold into a deeper, warmer tone. The cable enters through the rear plate, so it comes straight from the wall behind, with none running across the surface. As a mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician. It takes one G9 lamp, which is not included, so have one ready on the day.

Frequently Asked
Can the Walkway Guard stay outdoors in the rain?
Yes. It is rated IP65, so it is dust-tight and protected against jets of water from any direction, which means it lives outdoors in British weather all year.
Does it come with a lamp?
No. It takes one G9 lamp, which is not included, so it is worth buying one alongside the light before it is fitted.
How big is the Walkway Guard?
It is 14cm across and 7cm deep, and it weighs 1KG, so it sits neatly on a wall beside a narrow path or passage.
Will the raw brass finish change colour outdoors?
Yes, gradually. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw brass finish moves from bright gold towards a deeper, warmer tone over time.
Where does the cable enter the light?
The cable enters through the rear plate, so it can come straight from the wall behind the light, with none running across the surface of the wall.
What does the brass guard do?
The cross-and-ring guard sits over the frosted glass, putting brass between the glass and a passing elbow, bag or garden tool. The maker says the light is built to take the knocks of a busy space.
