What does the IP54 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP54 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. It can withstand rain and damp conditions but should not be installed where it will be submerged or subjected to high-pressure water jets. How is the light recessed into the wall?

The Bil requires a recessed back box or cavity cut into the wall surface. The faceplate then sits flush with the wall finish, minimising projection.
