Description
The Bil is a 70mm recessed wall light with a circular black aluminium faceplate and an integrated 3W 3000K LED that casts warm downward light through a central aperture. The IP54 rating protects the fitting against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for outdoor installation on exterior walls, garden paths, stairways, and under covered porches, as well as indoor use in corridors and stairwells.
Designed as pathway and step marking rather than flood lighting, the Bil provides enough illumination to define edges and guide movement without glare. The recessed mounting sits the faceplate flush with the wall surface, so the fitting projects minimally and avoids snagging in tight passageways or high-traffic areas. The downward beam angle focuses light onto the ground directly below the fitting, reducing light spill onto neighbouring properties and keeping the source itself discreet after dark.
The aluminium construction withstands prolonged outdoor exposure, and the powder-coated black finish resists fading and corrosion in damp or coastal environments. The 3W LED draws minimal current and produces approximately 300 lumens, comparable to a traditional 25W halogen bulb but with significantly lower running costs and a typical LED lifespan of 25,000-30,000 hours. The 3000K colour temperature gives a warm white light that sits comfortably in residential settings without the clinical tone of cooler LEDs.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP54 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP54 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. It can withstand rain and damp conditions but should not be installed where it will be submerged or subjected to high-pressure water jets. Suitable for most UK outdoor wall installations including exposed positions.
How is the light recessed into the wall?
The Bil requires a recessed back box or cavity cut into the wall surface. The faceplate then sits flush with the wall finish, minimising projection. Installation typically involves chasing the wall for the back box and cable run, so this is best done during construction or refurbishment rather than as a retrofit to finished walls.
Can it be used to light steps and stairs?
Yes. The downward beam angle makes the Bil particularly suited to marking individual steps on outdoor staircases or internal stairwells. Spacing one fitting per 2-3 steps provides enough definition to see changes in level without over-lighting the space.
Is the LED replaceable?
No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and not user-replaceable. The typical LED lifespan of 25,000-30,000 hours equates to approximately 10-15 years of evening-only use, after which the entire fitting would need replacing.
