Description

Three open-mouthed globe shades in smoke sit beneath an antique gold frame, the fitting measuring 40cm across. Each globe is cut away at its lowest point, so light spills downwards in clear pools instead of staying trapped behind the shade, and the smoke tint keeps the glow soft. The drop adjusts across a wide span, so the cluster can hang tight and tidy or fall low over furniture.

We would hang this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the shades spread along the length of the surface rather than pooling in one spot. It works just as well in a hallway or a stairwell with height to spare, since the long drop gives it somewhere to go. Each holder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose warm white LED globes here, because the open shades put the lamp on show. Dimming is possible where the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to match; neither is supplied with the fitting, and it is intended for ordinary dry rooms at home.

The antique gold has a warm, gently aged tone that sits happily with brass taps, oak and darker paintwork, while the smoke shades take on whatever light is in the room and read almost bronze at dusk. For care, turn the power off, let everything cool, then wipe the shades with a barely damp cloth and dry them straight away. Keep polish and solvents away from the gold, as harsh cleaners will flatten its sheen. It carries a one year warranty. The same round globe shade runs through the rest of the range on single light flush fittings, in this antique gold and smoke pairing as well as green and opal, and in polished chrome with chrome or iridescent shades. The shade cluster is 400mm in diameter. The drop can be set anywhere between 270mm and 2270mm, so it can be kept close to the ceiling or taken well down over a table.

What lamps does it take?

It takes three E27 lamps, each rated up to 20W. LED is the sensible choice, and because the globes are open at the base the lamp is visible, so a lamp you are happy to look at is worth picking.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. The dimmer is not supplied.

How should the shades be cleaned?

Switch off and allow the lamps to cool, then use a barely damp soft cloth on the smoke shades and dry them immediately. Only a dry cloth on the antique gold, with no polish or solvent.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms such as dining rooms, kitchens, halls and landings rather than anywhere exposed to splashing or steam.
