Description

A small converter that changes a bayonet cap lampholder into a GU10 socket, so a twist-and-lock GU10 lamp can be used where a bayonet lamp was originally intended. The white body measures 35mm across and stays close to the holder, so it hides easily inside a shade. The GU10 socket takes a lamp of up to 50W, though an LED will draw a small fraction of that.

We keep these for the times the fitting is right but the lamp on offer is wrong: an older pendant, a bayonet holder in a cupboard or a garage, a lamp base you like too much to replace. Moving to a GU10 gives you a directional reflector beam rather than a broad glow, which is useful over a worktop, along a shelf of books or aimed at a picture. It suits anyone who would rather adapt what is already there, and it is one we point customers towards when they are swapping an old lamp for something more efficient.

The casing is finished in plain white, which sits quietly against a white ceiling rose or a pale shade. Keep it clean by wiping the outside with a dry cloth whenever you change the lamp, and make sure the socket is clear of dust before the new one goes in. This is an indoor accessory for ordinary household lighting, not for damp or outdoor positions. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range covers converters for other socket pairings, including bayonet to screw fittings and small bayonet to small screw, along with inline dimmers in white, black and clear. It screws into an existing B22 bayonet cap lampholder and presents a GU10 socket instead, letting you use a GU10 twist-and-lock lamp in a fitting made for a bayonet lamp.

Which lamp should I use with it?

An LED GU10 reflector lamp, the usual 50mm reflector shape. The maximum is 50W, so a mains halogen GU10 also sits within the limit, but an LED runs at a far lower wattage.

How much extra length does it add?

It stands 50mm tall and is 35mm in diameter, so allow for that plus the length of the GU10 lamp above the original holder position when working inside a shade.

Is a lamp supplied with it?
