Description

This is a converter that turns a single E27 lamp position into five, each holder sitting on its own short arm that can be angled out or drawn back in. The head measures 15cm across, finished in plain white so it reads quietly against the inside of a drum or a wide open shade. Every holder takes an E27 lamp rated up to 20W, which is ample once LED lamps are doing the work. There is no switch on the body, so it answers to whatever wall switch or dimmer already runs the fitting.

We use these where one lamp simply cannot fill a large shade: a broad pendant over a dining table, a tall floor shade in a corner, or a hallway fitting that always looked underfed. Spreading the light across several lamps lifts the brightness and softens the shadow the shade casts on itself. It will dim, provided the lamps chosen are dimmable and the dimmer suits them. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; a bathroom or a porch is the wrong home for it.

The body is double insulated, which is worth knowing if you are working with an older shade and no earth. The white is uniform across the arms and holders, so a mismatched cluster is never on show. When it needs attention, kill the power first and run a dry duster along the arms and around each holder, since pale plastic shows dust sooner than it shows age. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same idea in a smaller version for narrower shades, and in a B22 to E27 form for older ceiling fittings, alongside single E27 lampholders in white and black. Lamps are not included.
