Description

Small parts do quiet work, and this is one of them. The ring is deeper than the usual lampholder collar, giving a shade a little more to hold on to and covering the join more completely. It measures 50mm across and stands 15mm tall, finished in matt black with no shine to catch the eye. The profile is plain, so it reads as part of the fitting rather than an addition to it. Nothing about it asks to be noticed.

We reach for this where a shade needs a deeper seat than a standard ring gives, and where black flex and a black ceiling box would be let down by a bright metal collar at the top of the shade. It suits pendants over a kitchen island, a run of shades along a hallway, or a single drop beside a bed. Anyone rebuilding an older pendant will find it an inexpensive way to tidy the point where shade meets holder, and it is the sort of thing worth adding to an order while you have the rest of the parts in front of you.

Non-electrical and light in the hand, it carries a one year warranty. Dust it whenever you clean the shade; matt black shows fingerprints more than most finishes, and a barely damp cloth with nothing on it will lift them without leaving a bloom. Polishes and kitchen sprays are best kept away.
