This is a small white adaptor that changes the lamp a fitting will accept: a bayonet cap base at one end, a G9 socket at the other. The body is short and narrow, roughly 28mm across, so it sits neatly inside a shade rather than announcing itself. It holds a single capsule lamp and is rated for loads up to 40W, which covers G9 capsules comfortably.

We reach for one of these when a lamp, pendant or wall light was built around a bayonet cap holder and the lamp you actually want is a G9 capsule. That happens often with older fittings, second hand finds and shades bought separately from the base, and it saves rewiring a holder that is otherwise perfectly sound. It suits anyone changing over to LED, and an LED capsule is what we would put in it: low draw, little heat, and a long life so the adaptor rarely needs to come back out. Keep the lamp within the stated maximum and check there is head height inside the shade, since the converter adds a little length above the original holder.

The white finish is plain and matches the pale interiors of most fabric and glass shades, so the adaptor reads as part of the fitting rather than an addition. To clean it, isolate the circuit at the switch, wait for the lamp to go cold, then take the capsule out and give both the adaptor and the socket a dry wipe. Nothing wet, and no solvents. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the wider range too, with converters running between bayonet cap, E14, E27 and GU10 holders, as well as inline dimmers in clear, black and white, so most mismatches between an old holder and a new lamp can be sorted out. No lamp is supplied with it.
