Description
The Knightsbridge BC B22 batten holder is a ceiling-mounted lampholder with an integrated 88mm diameter ceiling rose base, designed for direct installation onto UK ceiling wiring. The unit accepts standard BC B22d bayonet-cap bulbs up to 100W incandescent or 8W LED, with a three-terminal loop-in configuration supporting ring circuit and radial wiring arrangements.
Designed as a basic utility fitting for storage rooms, garages, lofts, hallways and any space needing a simple overhead bulb without decorative shade or pendant drop, the batten holder mounts flush to the ceiling with the bulb projecting downward approximately 75mm from the rose. The white thermoset resin construction is rated Class II (double-insulated), so no earth connection is required to the ceiling rose itself, though earthing may still be required for other parts of the circuit depending on installation context.
The IP20 rating confirms this fitting is for dry indoor environments only. The terminal capacity of 2 x 1.5mm² accepts standard UK lighting cable, and the three terminals enable loop-in wiring where the supply continues onward to further fittings rather than terminating at this point. The 25-year warranty reflects Knightsbridge's confidence in the thermoset resin construction, which resists heat deformation better than standard thermoplastics.

Frequently Asked
What bulb type does it accept?
The fitting takes BC B22d bayonet-cap bulbs only. Maximum rating is 100W for incandescent or halogen bulbs, or 8W for LED bulbs. The bulb is not included and must be purchased separately.
What does loop-in wiring mean?
Loop-in wiring allows the mains supply to continue through this fitting to feed additional lights further down the circuit. The three-terminal configuration supports this, though the fitting can also be used as a simple termination point if only two cables are present.
Is it suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use?
No. The IP20 rating confirms this fitting is for dry indoor environments only. For bathrooms or outdoor installation, you need a higher IP-rated fitting.
Why thermoset resin instead of standard plastic?
Thermoset resin resists heat deformation better than thermoplastics, giving better durability when used with higher-wattage incandescent or halogen bulbs that generate more heat than LEDs. This is part of why Knightsbridge offers a 25-year warranty on this fitting.
