Description

The Sheldon is a 295mm diameter outdoor pendant light with a wide brim shade in aged brass, suspended on a matching brass chain with elongated oval links. The shade houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) behind a clear glass globe, which is visible beneath the downturned brim. The solid brass construction is lacquered to slow oxidation, though the aged brass finish will continue to develop natural patina over time.

Designed for covered outdoor areas with IP44 weather protection, the Sheldon suits porches, verandas, covered patios and gazebos where direct rain exposure is limited. The 590mm chain allows drop adjustment between 330mm and 950mm on installation, making it adaptable to standard porch ceiling heights of 2.2-2.6m or lower gazebo structures. The wide 295mm brim directs most light downward, creating a pool of illumination on steps, doorways or outdoor dining tables beneath.

The aged brass finish starts as a warm golden bronze tone and darkens gradually to a deeper brown-brass patina depending on exposure to moisture and UV. This natural aging process is a feature of unlacquered or lightly-lacquered solid brass rather than a defect. The oval-link chain gives the pendant a more industrial character than round-link chain, echoing early 1900s barn and workshop lighting where heavy-duty suspension was needed. IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. The Sheldon is designed for covered outdoor areas such as porches, verandas and gazebos where it has overhead protection from direct rain but may be exposed to wind-driven spray or damp conditions.

What bulb does it take?

The Sheldon takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the aged brass finish and recreate the appearance of early incandescent barn lights.

Will the brass continue to darken?

Yes. The aged brass finish is lacquered to slow oxidation, but natural patina development will continue over months and years depending on exposure to moisture, UV and air circulation. This gradual darkening from golden bronze to deeper brown-brass tones is a characteristic of solid brass outdoor fittings, not a defect.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

The chain is adjustable on installation by removing links to shorten the drop between 330mm and 950mm. Once installed and wired, the chain length is fixed unless the pendant is taken down and re-wired to add or remove links.
